CMU vs. Northwood Exhibition - Bizarre Statistic
CMU trails Northwood by 1 at half but comes back to win by 10. Comeback appears to be aided by the fact they outscored Northwood at the line by 44 to 1 (48 to 8 on attempts)!!! Never seen such a disparity. CMU did convert 44 out of 48 free throws which I wish we could match someday. The Chips did allow Northwood to shoot close to 50% from the field so Keno ball looks to remain on full display. Chips look to be fueled again by JC transfer guards from far away places.

Wow. A game against Northwood shouldn't be a nail-biter. Hope that is a reflection of the quality of CMU's team this year.

Northwood will be the best NAIA/ D2 team we face this season. They blew out MIAA Alma by about the same margin we beat K College. Two D1 transfers and six players in the 6'6-6'9 range (MAC size roster).
They also play a decent schedule. At Nebraska tomorrow night for instance. This isn't Lourdes, K College or Siena Hts by any means. We have to show up.

This kind of thing has happened to Michigan State a couple of times recently with Ferris and GVSU, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I know Hawkins has spoke to fund raising groups about how these games scare him. Only takes a 3 point shooter to get hot and a Bronco team not so fired up for a lesser opponent.

The focus of my post was not really related to CMU, Northwood as an upcoming opponent or really anything related to their programs or ours. I just found the FT stat to be unbelievable. Never anything close to that.

That stat does feel strange. Either the stripes were on the take or Northwood fouls in some kind of strategic way. Could be coach is just trying to get them into a devil may care aggressive stance.
Either way, maybe we’ll get to see what our free throw capability is.

Going balls out for the steal on every possession, and living with the very high foul ratio could actually be a viable strategy, TBH. You'd have to have enough players of decent defensive prowess, and substitute frequently. If CMU would have only shot 65% from the line, which is a completely real possibility for any team on a given night, they would have lost by 3.
