Only 6.5?
FIU completed 35 passes for 323 yards. That many passes at that average translates to to a a first down every two passes; a true ball control passing game.
We gave up 323 yards passing to a team that averaged only 197 prior to our game.

Had the Panthers not had a couple of uncharacteristic major breakdowns in pass coverage, and some big runs by Lawry, we get creamed.

This was the most inspired game of the year by the offense, but we reverted back (from UNCC) to our soft 4-2-5 defense that, w/o some major breakdowns by the FIU defense, would have doomed us.
Pass plays tend to average more than running plays because you don't factor in the incompletions. If you counted 0 yards for each incomplete pass the average would be much less. So you really can't say two pass plays and a first down because the are zero yard plays in there also.

BTW, when was the last time we won a game we weren't expected to win? It's been a while.

Last week?

I think that was his point. Prior to last week, it had been a while.

ah ok ya. to that point yes I think it was a while. We've been pretty steady on losing and winning as predicted. Finally turned a corner?

RE: FIU Game Thread
6.5 yards per attempt is low. FIU averages 7.6 yards per attempt.

What teams average less than 5 yards per attempt? I think even Charlotte averages that. I would be surprised if there were a handful of teams that average less than a first down every 2 passing attempts. When you throw the ball 50 times, it is hard not to throw for 300 yards, it would take true ineptness. FWIW, we averaged 10 yards per pass attempt vs. FIU.

We gave up 23 points until a garbage time TD got it to 27. That is good enough to win with a competent offense.

I agree that if we eliminate all the good things we did, we probably lose.

Look at the play-by-play.

The game was still on the line. There was no garbage time. 07-coffee3
