WBB Game 5: #16 Duke (2-1) vs ODU (0-4)
Duke. Currently they are ranked number 16 in the nation. Early in the season I'm not a big fan of the rankings. It's almost impossible to see every team and to judge where they should be ranked. But this is a talented team with a lot of firepower from last season. Last year they lost to Oregon in the Sweet 16 after losing to ND in the ACC Championship game.
(Also for those playing at home, NC State was just ranked in the top 25 as of today at #23)
The Blue Devils are 2-1 on the season with a RPI of 194.

Duke has two redshirt seniors in Greenwell and Brown who might be one of the strongest backcourts in the country. Both have over 1,000 points in there career and are noted 3 point specialist. Last season Greenwell was a 1st team All ACC selection, Brown was a 3rd team. (Brown was a transfer from Maryland where she was a All ACC selection as well) Greenwell has been phrased for her defense, Brown has been on the All ACC Defensive team..both with Duke and Maryland.
Duke's entire roster is loaded with height. They have three players shorter than 6'0". They let most of there starters play though. But they have talent off the bench. For example, Bego Faz Davalos transfered from Fresno State where she was a two time Mountwain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Out of 346 D-I schools, ODU is currently ranked 337th in FT shooting. Yes it's an area of concern, but we have to work on our shooting and rebounding. If you saw NC Stae, one basket made our entire offensive output for the 10 minutes of play. After NC State, Coach McCray was concerned how we allowed 13 offensive boards to NC State. Enter Duke. They average 17.3 offensive boards a game, they have taller players, and they are more athletic than NC State. (hope NC State fans aren't reading this.... :-)
Our three point shooters, Kelly Loftus and Victoria Morris are really fun to watch. Neither spends a lot of time setting up the shot. It's almost a catch and quick release. I don't know if this series with Duke goes any further. I would love to play them in a couple of years down the road when we are ready. Coach Joanne McCallie seems to like the Ted though. So...maybe....
