Tulsa:

Your program is overextended. You are a podunk little private school operating on fumes. You will never catch Wichita State in basketball.

Last year we had 12 players, several of them not as talented as we hoped. Those players have been replaced by players that are either starting or expected to play significant minutes. We have 11 available scholarship players this year (curse you Will Magnay) but more than that we appear to have a team that can play as a unit with quality subs. We will know more in a couple of weeks as TU plays 5 games in 9 days starting the 10th. I don’t see us finishing lower than 7th and think we have a shot at being significantly better than last season.

I actually think Tulsa will be be better than last year. And still would pick them lower than they finished last year.

Reason 1: A team (WSU) was added in front of you. That bumps a lot of teams down 1 spot.

Reason 2: While I think Tulsa will be improved, I think other teams (UConn, Temple) will be even more improved. Those 2 teams specifically were decimated by injuries last season.

This is the guy who gets it.

This league should be much improved this year. Tulsa’s last year results are more a result of UCONN, TEMPLE and Memphis having really bad years. Houston was inconsistent at best. Those four actually played closer to the teams below them than the teams above. At times they were totally UN-watchable.

This year should be really fun to watch.

UCONN wasn't good when they weren't injured. This should be Ollie's last season. Temple's freshmen might make a difference, but the Josh Brown return doesn't scare me one iota. Neither one of them are going to have added as much as Tulsa did with the quality Tulsa has returning.

Tulsa has the talent to play with any of the teams in that group. They should be included in everyone's possible tournament teams. Whether Haith can coach them there remains to be seen.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph. It isn't mutually exclusive with my post. I have consistently listed Tulsa as part of that group. Knowing what I know now, it is my preseason opinion that Tulsa is towards the bottom of that group, but I expect there will be a lot of fluidity in that group. Beyond that, I think OOC performance will play in to NCAA hopes as much or more than league finish for that group. For example, the 6th place team could dance while the 5th place team goes to the NIT because of the wins picked up in OOC and league.

When we get rid of our head coach we'll be annual tournament locks again. Until then, who knows.

Should be fairly decent this year.

And yet UCONN still finished ahead of Tulsa last season...

Excited for the season to start to sort all of this out.

I think Tulsa deserves to be mentioned in the group that is 3-8. That being said I think Tulsa finishes 7th or 8th out of that group. Tulsa looks improved, but there was lots of room for improvement when you were 15-17. I could see Tulsa winning 20 games, but still finishing 7th. Going to be a tough season in the AAC. Can't wait for it to get started.
