I would agree with that, if there was some actual BS he called other USF fans out for. But in this case, there clearly wasn't. The USF fans here made good sense in the face of unrealistic UCF fans and churlish arse-sore UConn fans, with a dash of scared Memphis fans shivering at the prospect of facing Mighty UCF again.

LOL. We ain't scared. We're just not stupid.

I asked you before and you never answered. If you were a Memphis fan, who had already lost to UCF 40-13, and Memphis was ranked above USF, and had just beaten a Houston team that beat USF, which dang team would you prefer to play in the CCG?

Only one answer isn't idiotic.

You certainly act scared. It's one thing to think you have a better chance to beat USF than UCF in a title game rematch, fair enough. But the way you've gone on about it has oozed fraidy-cat. 07-coffee3

Quo, you act like people couldn't go back through the archives of csnbbs and find you belittling our conference situation when we were actually IN a BCS conference. Or that they couldn't go through the RSFC archives and follow your tired act before csnbbs even came into existence. You've been derisively ripping USF for not being the equal of Fl*rida or FSU for as long as I can remember. You don't see me going after long time USF people like Cuban or Cyberbull because they're not frauds the way that you are.

Well go ahead then and pull out the archives showing me 'ripping' USF for not being Florida or FSU. As for 'belittling' our conference situation, at times i did criticize the Big East, and for good reason, as there was plenty to be critical of. Now that we're not in a BCS conference any more do I wish we were in a Big East type situation? Sure. But 10 years ago, my criticisms of the Big East were valid.

You seem to have a hair up your arse, big time. I mean, let's say you're 100% correct and I am a USF 'fraud': Never graduated from USF, hate USF, love LSU and FSU and Florida and the SEC. There's little denying that in the thread you jumped in and criticized me for, i was in fact arguing a pro-USF position. So why jump in? It makes no sense even on your own terms. Even from the POV of 'exposing a troll', that can easily, and far more effectively be done when i am actually saying something disparaging about USF, which as a barely disguised USF-hater, should happen soon enough. Shouldn't require deep-web archive searches from 5 or 10 years ago, there should be plenty of examples of my USF fraudulence right now.

No, something weird's going on here. Did i fail to pay off a bet i owed you from 10 years ago or something?

PS - Of course we should be a 'good partner' in the AAC, and we are. What people say on this forum doesn't change that. But IMO it's plain as day that schools like UCF, Houston, and Memphis aren't "mates" in any way shape or form. They are competitors - in the here and now in terms of recruits and media attention, and longer term for P5 expansion. I don't want good things happening for any of them, that hurts us much more than helps us. To me, that's obvious.

Tell me - if UCF does play in the Peach Bowl, will you root for or against them?

Well, then you are misreading me and maybe the majority of the Memphis fan base. Nobody is "scared" of anybody. We just have enough intelligence to know if we have a choice, we would prefer to play what appears to be the weaker team on our own home field, rather than the higher ranked team who already beat us, on their home field.

It's nothing more or less complicated than that.

But you have to admit, it would be so sweet to beat UCF at Orlando - and we can.

Same old mantra different day, gonna be the same old results (if they meet in the CG). Look on the bright side, we get to bump that funny as hell “the last time Memphis beat UCF” thread.

Alright, if you say so. But maybe, so we don't get the wrong read or impression, think to yourself that you've made it perfectly clear that you think UCF will be the tougher opponent so no need to keep saying it. 04-cheers

Turns out to be a little bit harder to search these archives than I expected because a search of your posts caps out at 20 pages worth and still only goes back to August:

http://csnbbs.com/search.php?action=resu...d=&page=20

Keyword searches make it easy to find people who were wise to your act more than a decade ago, but they involve pointing out something that got me into trouble with mods the last time we had this type of debate. One that was particularly fun was a thread started by Maize (a Louisville fan) in 2007. I'll leave it at that. Perhaps you'll at least recognize that you didn't appreciate how well USF had it until we lost what we had.

Quote:You seem to have a hair up your arse, big time. I mean, let's say you're 100% correct and I am a USF 'fraud': Never graduated from USF, hate USF, love LSU and FSU and Florida and the SEC. I never said you were a USF "fraud." In fact, I am sure you really are a USF alumnus. You just have spent your entire time online speaking about USF with such a level of disdain, and badmouthing virtually everybody we've been in a conference with so as to make the environment so inhospitable, that I (and others) question whether you're an actual USF "fan." I readily admit that not everything I post about USF is rosy (hell, I've been dragging Sterlin Gilbert nonstop since week 2). But I also don't get on my high horse about USF so as to make fans of other teams groan at the mere mention of our school.

Quote:No, something weird's going on here. Did i fail to pay off a bet i owed you from 10 years ago or something?

Not to my knowledge.

Quote:PS - Of course we should be a 'good partner' in the AAC, and we are.

OK, now with that paragraph, I can easily see the difference. If UCF plays in the Peach Bowl, yes, I will root for them. Because I believe that it would help make the case that the AAC should get more money and better bowl bids because we have much more in common with the P5 than we do with the MAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA. I can see the other argument - that UCF winning means they have two NY6 bowl wins to our zero, but I don't honestly believe that that alone is going to be a deciding factor when it comes to conference expansion. On a side note, I don't believe that conference expansion is likely to come back up again until the Big XII's grant of rights expires in 2025, and when it does, I also believe that the Big XII will go the way of the Big East - it will be poached for at least Texas and Oklahoma, and the four power conferences will be the B1G, the SEC, the ACC and the Pac whatever. Nothing any of us does in this bowl season is going to get any of our schools into one of those four conferences. So we need to get access to better financial resources now, and the only way we're going to do that is together.

As for USF specifics, let's face a few facts. We were gifted an opportunity with the Big East, and we never took advantage of it. Much like Strong was gifted with what should have been an easy path to at least the Peach Bowl this year and he pissed it away. Until we start showing that we're worthy and not just simply a large school with a huge number of students and alumni (who don't show up to our games or put our teams first, by the way), we are what we are, so we need to make the best of our situation. I say that makes me a realist.

And it's pretty ironic that you are dinging me for repeating something too much. 03-lmfao

IOW's, you weren't able to find anything.

And heck, in the post you replied to, i DID in fact say that the Big East situation i sometimes criticized many years ago was obviously better than our current situation, but that doesn't change the validity of that criticism at the time.

Could have fooled me. In the post before this, you said: "You don't see me going after long time USF people like Cuban or Cyberbull because they're not frauds the way that you are."

In fact, I am sure you really are a USF alumnus. You just have spent your entire time online speaking about USF with such a level of disdain,

I can easily cite 100 posts just this year showing me rooting and cheering for USF. Heck I did that in the UConn vs USF game thread i started just a couple days ago. In contrast, you've obviously had a hard time finding any posts with me showing "disdain" for USF.

and badmouthing virtually everybody we've been in a conference with so as to make the environment so inhospitable, that I (and others) question whether you're an actual USF "fan." So ... what makes you think I'm not a USF fan is i talk smack about other AAC teams on this board? This board is FILLED with smack talk against USF! Loads of it, and I respond in kind. If we got rid of the smack, we'd lose 2/3 of the posts probably. This is pretty silly.

Plus, IIRC, I've always been very complimentary of Tulane and Navy. Have great respect for them in all ways.

Tell me - if UCF does play in the Peach Bowl, will you root for or against them?

OK, now with that paragraph, I can easily see the difference. If UCF plays in the Peach Bowl, yes, I will root for them. Because I believe that it would help make the case that the AAC should get more money and better bowl bids because we have much more in common with the P5 than we do with the MAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA.

I'l root for whoever they play to beat UCF by a score of 50-0. UCF is our RIVAL and i never want anything good happening for them on the football field. I always hope UCF has an 0-fer season like they have had a couple of times. That's from the gut.

And what my brain tells me is, realistically, UCF winning hurts USF much more than it helps. Odds that a UCF NY6 bowl win will result in more AAC money in terms of bowls? Very low. Odds it will help UCF take away key recruits in central and west florida? Much, much higher.

I agree about expansion, it's unlikely in the near term. But it can happen at any time, and so i want to be ready for it. That means not only us looking as good as we can, but others that we are in the running with looking as bad as they can - that means Memphis, UCF, Houston, etc.

As for USF specifics, yes, we did largely blow the Big East opportunity, especially in terms of the crucial area of building fan support. There is a near-perfect correlation between football that draws 50,000+ fans a game and being in the P5. We were never able to build our fan base up to Power level.

That said, we did do some things right thanks to Big East money, the most notable being investing in our athletic facilities all around, including Olympics and basketball.

Finally, as for Strong, despite the gut-wrenching loss to Houston, nothing has been pissed away. We still have all, literally all, of our season goals in our hands. If we win out, we WILL be the AAC champs and the NY6 bowl representative. The only thing we cannot be is in the playoffs, but we could never have made the playoffs anyway, not with our OOC schedule.

So there's no reason to drop your head about this season, at least not yet.

Turns out to be a little bit harder to search these archives than I expected because a search of your posts caps out at 20 pages worth and still only goes back to August:

Keyword searches make it easy to find people who were wise to your act more than a decade ago, but they involve pointing out something that got me into trouble with mods the last time we had this type of debate. One that was particularly fun was a thread started by Maize (a Louisville fan) in 2007. I'll leave it at that. Perhaps you'll at least recognize that you didn't appreciate how well USF had it until we lost what we had.

IOW's, you weren't able to find anything.

And heck, in the post you replied to, i DID in fact say that the Big East situation i sometimes criticized many years ago was obviously better than our current situation, but that doesn't change the validity of that criticism at the time.

Quote:You seem to have a hair up your arse, big time. I mean, let's say you're 100% correct and I am a USF 'fraud': Never graduated from USF, hate USF, love LSU and FSU and Florida and the SEC.

I never said you were a USF "fraud."

In contrast, you've obviously had a hard time finding any posts with me showing "disdain" for USF.

and badmouthing virtually everybody we've been in a conference with so as to make the environment so inhospitable, that I (and others) question whether you're an actual USF "fan." I readily admit that not everything I post about USF is rosy (hell, I've been dragging Sterlin Gilbert nonstop since week 2). But I also don't get on my high horse about USF so as to make fans of other teams groan at the mere mention of our school.

So ... what makes you think I'm not a USF fan is i talk smack about other AAC teams on this board? This board is FILLED with smack talk against USF! Loads of it, and I respond in kind. If we got rid of the smack, we'd lose 2/3 of the posts probably. This is pretty silly.

Plus, IIRC, I've always been very complimentary of Tulane and Navy. Have great respect for them in all ways.

Quote:No, something weird's going on here. Did i fail to pay off a bet i owed you from 10 years ago or something?

Not to my knowledge.

Quote:PS - Of course we should be a 'good partner' in the AAC, and we are.

When I read this, I started out with a decent fire in my belly to try to figure out how to refute some of this without getting myself kicked off of here. A good chunk of that stems from the last time that we had a similar debate, which resulted in this:

mod name redacted Wrote:Dear usffan

I don't care if you disagree with [REDACTED] or not. I often disagree with him myself, since he's swallowed the media's line on just about everything, and I've always had a built in distaste for most things in the mainstream...

So my plan was to go through the RSFC archives, black out your name so as not to get into trouble, and make my point. And while I found many posts deriding the Big East, and a fair number that painted USF in less than a positive light, I have to admit that they were not as bad as I remembered. So I admit that what I wrote (and misremembered) about you was wrong, and I humbly apologize. While I disagree with your position about the outlook of the AAC and whether it is better or worse for USF to have UCF or Memphis win a NY6 bowl, I can certainly understand your opinion and can't in any way argue with your right to have it.

So to reiterate, I apologize for my aggressive posts.
