B-ball Exhibition Games?
Hey, anyone make it to the women’s game earlier today or at the men’s game now? Had hoped to go but something came up...how did/do both Rocket teams look today?

I knew Findlay, Sir, and Trine is no Findlay. Ladies' game was a fast break fest. Lock haven hung for a quarter but everyone looked quick and athletic for UT. Not much to learn.

04-bow overpowering performance. How in the world did Justin Roberts get 5 personal fouls in only 8 minutes?

The women did get out and run the floor every chance they got and that's always fun to watch as a fan.

I was a little concerned about the number of missed layups (19 or 20) but this should be addressed in practice. There were also times when the ladies were getting out-muscled on the boards which had me wishing that Janice and Sophie were back in uniform.

The defense played pretty well against Lock Haven's dribble-oriented offense, causing 27 turnovers that led to a bundle of points.

Thanks for the report, sir! I figured if anyone could give us a synopsis, it would be you!

RE: B-ball Exhibition Games?
I saw most of the women's game. Woody was not dressed for the game. She was on the bench and had no visible injury. This team's potential weakness would seem to be depth at the 4 and 5 positions. St. Fort started at the 4. We know that she brings toughness, defense, and rebounding. Beacham played significant minutes backing up at the 4. She was ineffective on defense, either fouling (4 times) or stepping out of the way to avoid a foul. She rebounded well but didn't show anything offensively. Beacham has strength and size, and her quickness and jumping ability are very good considering her size. She's a work in progress, though.

Rasmussen backed up McIntyre. McIntyre looked great, I thought. She runs the floor very well and is coordinated enough to receive a pass and finish on the fast break. The Rocket women looked to run at every opportunity, and even sometimes when there was no opportunity.

The three freshmen all played. Davis was the first freshman off the bench. She has a quick first step. Copeland was only 1-5 on three-pointers, but we know from her time at Notre Dame that she can shoot. If she plays good defense and takes care of the ball, her shooting could earn her some minutes.

Good analysis. I was very surprised with Beacham's athleticism. She'll only improve and gives us a big body in the middle. Neither Davis, who looked very quick, or Copeland hesitated to shoot when open. Cullop made a point of telling Davis she had taken a good shot after a pull-up J on a fast break. We should be awfully fast but rebounding will be by committee and good bigs will give us problems. Even Lockhaven's second string center outmuscled us for offensive boards several times. Another big plus: McIntyre was 4-4 from the line!

BTW, I am not a dedicated follower of fashion but the uni shorts tucked up under the compression shorts in front is NOT a good look. What is that all about?

tucking

that was a couple years ago. Maybe it's still about comfort, maybe it's a thing like rolling the wasteband.

I can't imagine not being distracted by the baggy Michigan shorts.

didn't see the game but good to dominate and play very efficiently with such high percentage shooting from all over. a couple random statistical notes. walk-on vicpatrick harris only played 4 minutes but it was a monster 4 minutes. based on this game, if you extrapolate his production per minute over a 40 minute game he would have 80 points 10 assists and 10 steals and not miss a shot. on the other side justin roberts would average 25 fouls per 40 minute game.

Apparently, as with so many fashion trends, Toledo is just catching up. About five players had varying degrees and precision of this look. Thanks for the link-Missouri? Huh!

Thought I'd be snarky and post a photo 1940s women playing in skirts but nope. Shorts that would make Bird and Magic blush. Did find this from an even ealier era. Now THESE would be cool retro.

RE: B-ball Exhibition Games?
Thanks Dwight & pono for also sharing observations. Really looked forward to going to both exhibition games & just wasn’t able to in the end, so I appreciate everyone’s “eyes and ears”.

I’m hoping the women can catch fire again come MAC tournament time. I am concerned about our depth inside.

As for the men, that’s a pretty tough pre-MAC schedule, and not having the services of Willie Jackson for some of those games will be a factor. I will be happy if we begin conference play with a record better than 7-6. Crossing my fingers for a healthy season for all; if we lose a starter to injury it could be tough sledding.

We had a gym teacher who made us learn the old six player women’s game because he thought it was ridiculous to think they couldn’t play the men’s game and he wanted to give an object lesson. He did not insist, however, on the sweater/skirt combo.

RE: B-ball Exhibition Games?
I will be shocked if Fletcher is not first team all MAC and in contention for the player of the year. I expect that him and Sanford will be the top scoring duo in the league this year. I left before the walk-on got in the game I wish hadn't. Navigato looked like to me he has put on ten or so pounds of Muscle as well. Marreon Jackson to me looked like he had very long arms which of course is an asset basketball. I think he will be a good point guard. I wonder if they will redshirt Logan Hill since he cam in fairly late. Didn't get a really good gauge on Dylan Anderson he looks like he can play just didn't take many shots.
