Memorable heart-breaking losses/plays you wish you could forget...
Let's do a little re-hashing...I know this is an odd thread but what are some of your most memorable heart breaking plays/losses you endured watching our fellow eagles. A few I can think of:

2012: 21-17 loss to #17 Louisville in a monsoon at home...i remember late in the game we had a chance to seal the W with a defensive stop. 3rd and FOREVER and Louisville runs a RB draw up the middle for like a 30 yard TD run for the win.

2010: 43-44 loss to ECU at home... Similar to Louisville game. Late in the game we had a chance for a defensive stop around the midfield. 3rd and FOREVER...ECU throws a quick slant to Dwayne Harris for a 50+ yard catch/run for a TD and the win.

2009: 23-25 loss at Louisville. I was at this game. Louisville was terrible this year. We drive down the field to score a TD and take the lead 23-22 with 2 minutes left. We kick off and they return it about 80 yards...ugh. They kick a gw field goal as time expires.

2009: 43-50 loss at #15 Houston. We tie the game at 43 with 50 seconds left. Case Keenum takes the ball and drives to about the midfield with about 20 seconds left. Keenum hard counts, our entire line jumps offsides flag is thrown...for whatever reason our entire defense thinks the play is dead but it's not...Keenum throws a 50 yard TD to a wide open uncontested WR for the win.

2009: 20-25 loss at ECU. With a divisional championship on the line...we score a TD with 7 mins left in the game...the XP would put us up 21-20...instead ECU blocks the XP, returns it for a 2 PT conversion. That point swing really sticks out in my head because our defense could've won that game for us.

2008: Deandre's leg break. Still haunts me to this day.

2006: 17-20 loss to ECU at home in overtime. I was at a wedding during this game but I was able to catch the very last play of the game on the radio. I sh!t you not, I turn on the game and I hear John Cox say "Young takes a shot in the end zone.......CAUGHT BY THE EAGLES, CAUGHT BY THE EAGLES, EAGLES WIN, EAGLES WIN...no wait, they're gonna say ECU intercepted the ball and that's gonna be the ballgame. ECU wins 20-17"

Who remembers that one game vs Alabama in '95 I think? They convert a hail mary on 4th and forever at legion field to steal a W. Still makes me sick thinking of that play. Pretty sure this highlight is on YouTube somewhere.

RE: Memorable heart-breaking losses/plays you wish you could forget...
Alabama loss was bad...but does not even come close to the highway robbery (even the C-Liar called it that) in 1973, at Ole Piss (the game Ray Guy kicked a 93 yard punt that I swear is STILL rolling!).

USM leads 9-7 in the waning moments, OP gets one last chance deep in their own territory....1st down incomplete, 2nd down incomplete, 3rd down incomplete....on fourth down they lob a wounded duck about 40 yards down field, USM intercepts and ref signals "first down USM"...USM players run off field jubilant, BUT WAIT!!! FROM 40 YARDS AWAY UMPIRE JACK BRADFORD RUNS TO THE SPOT OF THE FOUL AND CHANGES CALL TO: "PASS INTERFERENCE USM, FIRST DOWN OP!!!". Disheartened, USM "D" falls apart and OP scores!

Now, that IS one I have never gotten over.(and yes, I was there!)04-cheers

Also the Cal game with GB Packer's QB Aaron Rodgers....we score late to supposedly tie game...Xpoint is blocked and Cal runs it back for 2 points and WE STILL HAVE TO KO!

Yes, in the Alabama game, 4th down and 30...Patrick Surtain, then a freshman, falls down and leaves Todrick Malone wide open in the end zone for a touchdown. I am still sick over that one. The play against USM against Ole Miss was the biggest highway robbery in college football history. The Clarion Ledger’s Headlines the next day were....”Ole Miss wins a tainted victory over USM...Jesse James rides again!”

That was in 2005 and we won that game in OT. Marshall kicker clanged it, not USM.

That was Cox's call vs ECU in 2006? Pretty funny. I remember it was a jump ball that ECU went up and intercepted. Could have gone either way.

You've come up with a solid collection of games. 2010 ECU was really tough for me for whatever reason. 2009 ECU as well. I would add FIU 2013 in there. That was truly rock-bottom for this program.

Non-football, obviously the 2017 baseball regional is #1 without question. Worst collapse in Southern Miss baseball history (yes, worse than Texas in 2009) and set this program back a decade in-state. Only TTT moment that was worse in my lifetime was the 2011 UAB loss in football.

We had some absolutely brutal losses to Memphis in basketball under both Calipari and Pastner. The two big ones were 2011 and 2013. 2011 we had a big lead at home, looked like we were going to win and put ourselves in the mix for the Dance, but blew it. UofM made a three to win it with about a second left. 2013 was the CUSA championship game we lost in 2OT. I also remember in either 2006 or 2007 we lost on another late three to a top 25 Memphis team at the Forum.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Darren McCaleb kicked a 34-yard field
goal in overtime to lift Southern Mississippi to a 27-24 victory
over Marshall on Tuesday night.

Southern Miss (5-3, 4-1 Conference USA) blew a double-digit lead
for the second straight game. Unlike a 21-17 loss at North Carolina
State on Oct. 29, the Golden Eagles recovered.

Marshall failed to score in overtime when freshman David
DeFatta's 27-yard field goal attempt bounced off the left upright.
