I don't think Justin Johnson is the best WKU player (most well known maybe) but not best. We might have a freshman in Hollingsworth that could compete for freshman of the year and Lamonte Bearden is probably the best player we have. Johnson would be 3rd-4th IMO

Hollingsworth is going to be really good. UAB really wanted him.
I agree WKU may end up having some better players than JJ but I'm going by what we have seen so prior. King at MTSU is the only one I've followed very closely at Memphis that I could justify ranking.

In our two exhibition games, Hollingsworth has led the team in scoring with 18 and 20 points. Kid is extremely smooth and quick as a cat, he had 7 steals the other night, very excited to have him for sure.

JJ, was, is, still will be, Western's best player. The end.
I understand Western fans saying other wise but if there's another player getting 15 points, 10 rebounds and getting players on the other team in foul trouble. I want to actually see it. If he hits 70% of his fts points go up to about 17ppg. The only thing stopping JJ from being first team all conference...Western not being very good last year. JJ's numbers last year were better than Reggie Upshaw in just about every stats. Switch the records and JJ was first time. Upshaw is one of the players I love watching play this game and even if he's on Middle...he's hard to dislike.

Totally agree, Guns. Yes just st hope JJ’s body holds up. He’s got a lot of miles on his legs and with no depth I worry.

No disrespect to JJ, but in context, Upshaw was surrounded by two other great players, and several very good players on what was the most talented team in the conference. Jacorey Williams and Giddy Potts lightened the load that Upshaw had to carry...

I guess what what makes JJ so good is that he does it so discrete, nothing real flashy, then you look up and he has 20. I stand by JJ not being the best player but he is probably the toughest and hardest worker which makes him the most valuable

As always, thanks Blazer!
I think the race between Potts and Elmore will be awesome.
It's probably gonna take a special year from Marshall for Elmore to win over Potts.
Seeing as how Middle will likely carry this conference again, I can see Giddy being the front runner.

I struggled with putting Lee over Giddy and only did because of his two-way game. I mean Giddy is no slouch on D but Lee could be an all timer in C-USA defensively.
Elmore is going to go off this season. He has less help offensively and will be depended on more. He is going to be special.

I have no problem with the preseason ranking, we'll see at the end of the season.
A question a little off topic. Will the UAB blog and UTEP blog be doing a weekly podcast during the season? I really enjoyed those last season.

Yeah, I could see that. I could see a middling Marshall team carried by John Elmore averaging over 25 points with 7 or so assist per game.
Lee probably has the best chance to go pro.

Yep! Not sure when we'll get it going though. No later than the end of November.

Nice work Blazer.
Your analysis focuses primarily on offensive ability, IMO. Elmore and Davis are both great offensive players, terrible defenders.
The best player in conference, IMO, is Jacobi Boykins. 40% shooter from 3, 80% from the FT stripe, passes, rebounds, and most of all, is by far the best defensive player in the conference.
I would probably list Potts as 2nd.
Generally agree with Caver, Stith. If Brandan can ever stay healthy, he is up for an all CUSA selection.
