Quote:President Trump tweeted Friday that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's sentence-- a dishonorable discharge, but no prison time for leaving his post in June 2009 -- was a "complete and total disgrace."
More than eight years after Bergdahl walked off his base in Afghanistan -- and unwittingly into the clutches of the Taliban -- Bergdahl walked out of a North Carolina courtroom a free man Friday. Bergdahl, who pleaded guilty to endangering his comrades, was fined, reduced in rank to E1 and dishonorably discharged -- but he received no prison time.
RE: Bergdahl dishonorably discharged, No Prison Time
Well Trump should've kept his mouth shut a few weeks back, that opened the ground for appeals if Bergdahl would've been sentenced. What he's gotten is due to him running his mouth. He lost rank, forfiet of back pay, and is dishonorably discharged. He's now a private citizen and a DD follows him forever.

Who the phuck did he think would grab him, Amish?
Look. This guy did something stupid and I think possibly was a sympathizer of the locals. His best hope would be that a tribe take him in like they did Marcus Luttrell.

Took him in alright, in a cage for a number of years. He was a dumass. Still is.

I don't disagree. And Bergdahl even said as much when he got in front of the judge. He probably would've gotten the book thrown at him if Trump wouldn't had backed up his remarks. I blame him and the media. Cause it wasn't like he took to Twitter to discuss it, a reporter asked him and put it on the news. Then again I could be wrong.

That President Trump's comments kept him out of the clink? Most likely.

That Trump wouldn't have shot off his mouth bout BB after being sworn in.
It's one thing to say it as a candidate and another to say it as Commander in Chief

It didn't/doesn't matter what Trump did, or did not, say, his words are not the reason why BB isn't serving time. No Judge military or otherwise gives any weifght to the words of a non-Judge. Even if that non-Judge is the POTUS. As for why BB isn't serving time, I have no clue. I just know the words of the POTUS, especially this POTUS, carry no weight in a court of law.

I think we should see the Judge's remarks prior to blaming Trump. Bergdahl was discharged from the Coast Guard because he was mentally unfit. The Army probably should have never taken him.
1) Who ordered to rescue missions where soldiers died trying to get him back and why?
2) Obama should have not made the exchange for a deserter
3) Army probably should have not accepted him
4) If there was any reasonable evidence that Bergdahl was unfit in a combat position
he should have been ordered to return stateside.
Lots is issues. I served with 2 illiterate guys, they both made it through basic and ait.

I believe the article I read stated something about the CiC making remarks could influence the sitting judge's stance with it being a military court martial. The argument would've been that BB never stood the chance at a fair trial leading to an appeal. If I can find the article I'll post it. Remember this wasn't a normal trial. And I'm sure those who have served can tell us more about a military legal proceedings.
