Toledo Passing Yardage---Smalls
Can someone with good stats please let me know how many of the 361 Toledo passing yards were thrown at or in the direction of Smalls? I honestly don't think I have ever seen a team throw almost every pass in the direction of one player. I remember the shuffle pass and the last completion behind the line with Lurry making the tackle (Smalls wasn't on the field), but I'm struggling to think of any other.

I'm guessing 330 yards?

And please don't tell me Smalls was all over field. He was just on TV a lot.

Can anyone else remember a time where you were at home knowing exactly which way the ball was going?

I'm sitting here with my 8 year old son and kept saying, "there's number 1, watch where they throw." Honestly, it was 90+% of the time. I don't think I ever recall being able to call plays with such accuracy.

C’mon. No one is going to say it? Alright, I’ll say it for you: “You’re killin’ us, Smalls!”

We should vote Smalls the MVP - for Toledo!

Woodside had 361 yards and completed about 74% of his passes. Our D was 1/2 yard away from giving up 34 points. To call that a bad game for our D is being kind!

That's awesome. I was watching on a delta plane tonight on espn3 yelling that. Ha ha.... True.

Smalls was horrible, anybody else says different (?) they did not watch the same game, or posibly had the teams uniforms mixed up.
Childers had some horrible throws, but I am in the camp that the future looks to be Huskie Football again. I like him, he makes me nervous as hell! Ha Ha

Although Smalls had a tough night, it's tough to play db if the D line is getting no pressure on the QB.

You are absolutely right—that was Lurry—-and actually after some zig zag by the receiver Smalls made the tackle to save the touchdown.

Stop blaming the defense for everything and show some praise for the Toledo offense and Logan Woodside.

Yes, exactly. Did Smalls have a bad game? Yeah, no doubt about it, but jesus he was playing a top tier QB and the best WR core in the MAC and statistically one of the best in the country. We knew Toledo was going to score points, NIU couldn't match them. Case closed, beat by a better team.

OK—my original intent and question was to point out every time Toledo needed a play in the air it SEEMED like they went to the same well. There is no blame on the defense at all and honestly, the defense did quite well. Toledo put up 30 on Miami! “We knew Toledo was going to score points”—-they didn’t score as many as they were supposed to according to Vegas and betting sites. Perhaps, just great scouting and game planning by Toledo and/or lack of adjustments by NIU.

Two points—and they are certainly conflicting—it’s absolutely great when our defense looks like it let us down by giving up 27 points and the other is that we just don’t have an offense that can consistently score 30.

I agree that we got beat by a better team—-that was never in question.

Was that all on Lurry though or was Mykelti late getting over? Not that Lurry couldn't have done a better job on his guy...but if he expected help over the top then he definitely didn't get it.

True that. Woodside put the ball in position where only his wrs would get it and many times where they got YAC. That is big.

I agree with the comment that NIU got little pressure on qb. Frankly, Smith was MIA in 2nd half. They game planned for him NOT to beat toledo and the rest of the dline didnt step up enough.

If they were playing zone perhaps. The tv screen doesn't show the whole defense as it executes and leaves out the corners until the ball comes into view. We have to make an assumption. The fact that he got burned the previous week where he was in man coverage on a very similar pattern leads me to speculate it was his man. Even so it was Smalls as the original post suggests.
Plus I dont think smalls was covering the TE over the middle either. So why he didn't have a good game the yardage is probably less than 240 using my cocktail napkin math.

I didn't think the Isom injury was going to be a factor for this D. Olootu gets limited time. Perhaps they don't have anyone else to step in right now as the rest of the cbs are young.
