The unmitigated evil of the California FTB

And I genuinely mean evil. It takes a special kind of evil to hunt down people who fled your state's tax policies, invade their privacy, talk about them in an anti-Semitic way in GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS, and attempt to extort them to the tune of over 50 million dollars.

Three cheers to Mr. Hyatt for not only fighting the thieving criminal leftists running California government ... but for showing the heroic restraint to do so in a civil manner for DECADES. If this were me ... I would have hurt somebody. I really mean that. I would have directed physical violence at whoever from the CA FTB showed up to my door. I have seething anger just from the burdens ObamaCare places upon me. I would *lose it* if the government tried to do this to me.

California is notorious for trying to tax people in spite of laws and court cases to the contrary. You never want nexus there if you don't absolutely need it.

I'll just pull it off the Wiki, but I honestly assumed you guys would have a working understanding of it around here. It seems like actual conservatives worst nightmare.

Quote:Civil forfeiture in the United States, also called civil asset forfeiture or civil judicial forfeiture[1] or occasionally civil seizure, is a controversial legal process in which law enforcement officers take assets from persons suspected of involvement with crime or illegal activity without necessarily charging the owners with wrongdoing.

Not to interrupt a good indignant harrumphing, but Pete Wilson was governor when the FTB went after Gilbert Hyatt.

That should not happen.

California....

They spent 25 million going after 50 million
They got 1 million
They got a judgement against them for 388 million
They got lucky because a state agency can not be fined more than 50K

You would be right to do so. Gotta draw the line at tyranny

If it's wrong for a Dem to do, it's wrong for a Republican to do. And vice versa.

I know some people like to play party politics, but wrong is wrong.

California's abuse started before the state became solid blue.

Yep. And too many government entities view it as a revenue stream.

I actually understand it's original intent, to keep drug dealers from ill gotten gains, but it's now out of hand in some places... it's almost common theft.
