Feinstein needs his head examined. Save for a few outliers, his whole top 25 is confusing as all get out.

Feinstein has Harvard in his top 25, excludes UC. 60 year old guys from the Northeast have a special place in their heart for the Ivy League schools.

John Feinstein was also the only voter to leave a top 10 team unranked (USC), gave Xavier their highest ranking (12), and was the only voter to rank Harvard (110 in KenPom).

Also, what did we ever do to Dick Vitale? Year in and year out he is one of our lowest ranking.

On the flip side , kudos to UConn beat writer Dave Borges for the #6 ranking .

All in all #12 is more than a fair place for this team to start.

Vitale isn't a real color analyst, he's Duke's PR department. Feinstein doesn't know basketball, but he graduated from Duke.

We care because ranking are important to donors, ticket holders and recruits (they like to go to schools that are ranked high).

I think you're 100% right about why rankings are important. I have to disagree on us being a little guy though; when ranking all-time programs, we tend to be in or near the top 10. We haven't really shown it consistently over the past 12 years though, and our current conference affiliation is well below our program's prestige. If that's what you're referring to, I can't disagree.

I care because people who are tasked with ranking teams for nationally recognized polls should take it seriously and have legitimate criteria for doing so instead of using their Captain Midnight and the Secret Squadron decoder ring they got out of a cereal box when they were a kid.

Hey I'm glad Feinstein got the message from the State of Cincinnati. That says our fans are passionate enough to rattle his chain.

Preseason ratings are great for this team. Saw an article from SI online earlier that ranks defenses and has the 'Cats #3 nationally. I just hope our guys are ready from day one to be the hunted and not the hunters. History is littered with preseason ranked teams that spend too much time reading their own press clippings and fall by the wayside. I think this team is too good for that but we'll know just a little more in nine days.
