You lose your star QB and maybe the best receiver Memphis has had, certainly top 3. The odds of matching this year’s success are small.
If I was a top school....I might be somewhat concerned about not seeing a clear picture of how Memphis will do in 2018. You are correct on the QB and receiver situation. What if Memphis ends up with 6 or 7 wins in 2018? We have a lot of good players coming back but the QB situation is unclear and that potentially can be a problem. Maybe.......they would offer another coach with a longer and more proven track record because knowing or being able to clearly project how 2018 is going to pan out for Memphis is important before handing out a big contract. All our backup QB's are 2 or 3 stars (McBride, Moore and Adair are 2 stars, Brady Davis is a 3 star) with no or limited playing time. Is there someone who is the clear front runner to replace Ferguson? I am trying to look at this from the standpoint of being the AD at a much bigger school, tryng to make the right decision on a head football coach.
This is a good post. Also something to consider is Norvell ran a different style of offense at ASU. So what will we look like next year if he doesn't have a QB who can really 'spin it'? I'm not really concerned about it, but it is a consideration if you are making a hiring decision.
