No. SMU could run the table and win outright.

In fact, SMU could lose one more and still beat Memphis to win the tiebreak.

I don't think I would go there yet. We just need to take care of business and there are no problems. SMU has UCF, Navy, us and Tulane. All of those are games they could lose and they will likely be the underdog in 3 of them. They worry me every year but somehow we seem to play our best defensive game of the year against them. Let's get this Tulsa win and rest some folks up during the bye week.

SMU loses any one game not to Memphis and wins the rest--they win the West.

Yada yada, winning the SMU game is the most important game in terms of winning the west.

All I know is the Tulsa game scares the hell out of me. With exception of a couple of games, Tulsa has played teams very tough. They blew out Houston. Plus it's a trap game for Memphis as we're emotionally sky high right now from the current rankings that just came out. Not to mention, Tulsa is an old rival back from Missouri Valley days. Tulsa is not to be taken lightly.

It’s a biggie biggie. Hopefully we take care of business this Friday and then we get a favorable game time and weather. That should make for a nice crowd against SMU.

I was trying to be simplistic in the idea that SMU is the most important game in terms of winning the west.

If SMU beats Memphis, they would be the only team that would have the tiebreaker on us.

So far SMU in conference:
Beat UConn at home 49-28
Lost at Houston 35-22
Beat Cincinnati on the road in OT 31-28
Beat Tulsa at home 38-34

Their only road win was over a 2-6 Cincy team in OT. So they have UCF at home, Navy and us on the road and Tulane at home. Probably finish with 4 conference losses.

I get simplistic. Also inaccurate. If SMU beats us and loses another, chances are greater for a 3-way tie than for just a 2-way between us and them.

Easier said than done, but if we take care of business from here on out, we're in the championship game regardless of what SMU does. Guessing UCF has to stumble at least once then also lose to USF for us to have any chance to host the title game.
