RE: Gee-Off pimping our coach to Florida
Nobody outside of Memphis knows anything about Geoff. He's just a random name once you get out of the Memphis area. Don't worry about it.
.....$20 says geoff reads this and gets a little heartburn

How can anyone live in Memphis that long, cover sports and not be a fan of the Tigers.

Right, the whole fall of the newspaper industry is his fault. Must not be writing enough propoganda articles.

(10-30-2017 02:59 PM)cmt Wrote: My guess is Norvell leaves here for Arkansas. I don't think Florida wants him or that he has any reason to go to Florida except the money. And I don't think Arkansas will have an opening this season. And I don't think he's a shoe in for a Florida type job anyway. Who knows what he'll do, but I think we have a good chance of keeping him another year.
Calipari was never going to NC State. It wasn't grand enough. Florida is a great job and he should probably take it. But, history shows that most coaches only get one shot at the big time and most fail in the eyes of the administration and fans and get fired a few years later. Memphis won't do that and if Arkansas fires their coach next season, Norvell has a real chance there to beat the odds and remain Arkansas' coach for a long time. All Arkansas fans want at this point is to rise to the middle of the SEC west. Florida fired a coach with 2 east titles.
You don't think Bielema is going to get fired this year? He's on his fifth year and his best season was 8-5 two years ago and he went to the Liberty Bowl. He's 11-26 in the SEC and will most likely end this season with another losing record in the SEC. He was the #1 coach on the hot seat in the preseason and he hasn't done anything to merit losing that esteemed title.
Plus, if you're Arkansas, aren't you a bit terrified of getting left at the alter by Norvell, who already has personal and recruiting ties to the immediate area? It seems as if Bielema being fired is a foregone conclusion at this point. Especially considering that the Hogs' only SEC win this year came against Ole Myth.
The list of Hog wins this year is pretty laughable:
Florida A&M (in front of an ANNOUNCED crowd of 36k in Little Rock);
New Mexico State;
Ole Myth;
And most likely against Coastal Carolina and Mizzou (which is a dumpster fire this year).
Maybe if Bielema can beat LSU at Baton Rouge and Misstake in Fayetteville will he survive. Even THEN he'll be 4-4 in conference play this year. If he loses to both, he'll be 2-6 in the conference this year (assuming he beats Mizzou).

Been so long, I have no idea what he writes anymore and nothing compels me to find out. Lost me years ago. Sure in the hell wouldn't pay to read him opine particularly if it sheds a negative light on the Tigers or trys to push a winning coach to another school. So, yeah, newspapers thankfully no longer have a captive audience.

It's quite another to do THAT, listen to the answer, and then continue to basically "sell" Norvell for the next five minutes, stating how "he's been the most open with the media since Cal, he loves EVERY part of the coaching, the players, the media, AND the fans - even Fuentes was a bit prickly with the media at times, and he didn't like the boosters part of it, but Norvell is [a wet dream from a media standpoint]", thereby setting up the probability that Norvell will be HAMMERED into the minds of the readership for the next 2 months by at least this guy. You don't think the Florida admin is gonna want to hire the guy that its fans are frothing at the mouth for? Great, let's see if we can get the Florida fan base to start frothing for OUR guy. What a doosh.
Norvell is going somewhere.
Still betting Arkansas.
Accept it.
I'm going to bet against Arkansas. It is too much of a repair job, not enough cache to sign the best players and is at best the 4th best job in the division.
Norvell will see Arkansas for what it is worth, from all the drama and crap around the program and players, only finishing the season ranked 3 times since 2000 and frankly, I don't think image wise Norvell wants to be associated with a school that hires coaches like Nutt, Smith, Petrino and Bielema.
It just doesn't seem to be his vibe. The job he should want is TAM if he wants to be in the SEC.
Parrish was just on with Calkins. He said Arkansas is the job we need to worry about just like VT was the job we needed worry about with Fuente. It’s a job he’d take for sure, because of his ties to the state.

The other day, I met a new guy in town from Buffalo. Pointed out that is where our esteemed sports columnist is from. He'd never heard of GC. In Buffalo. Or in Memphis.

When Parrish talks hiring coaches and sports he’s pretty smart. When he talks anything else not so much. Calkins is agenda on everything pure and simple.
