In this world, you typically get what your pay for....
USA Today released the 2017 head coaches salaries list. Hopson is the lowest paid coach in CUSA and only 13 head coaches in the country make less:

If we want to be successful in the modern day landscape of college football, then we have got to figure out a way to increase our revenue/budget so we can lure more attractive coaching candidates, including the head, assistant & strength coaches.

We hired a SWAC coach, at SWAC prices and are now getting SWAC like results. TTT

So you're saying there are 12 coaches out there that would take this job for a pay raise? Any of them any good?05-stirthepot

we intentionally picked a "true believer" -- someone that would view the program like jeff bower, as a destination, and not a stepping stone. I assume we got tired of bringing in the "next big thing", just to lose him to a basketball school or the nfl after a few years.

I think the low salary is more of a correlate to the first thing.

salary wouldn't have held us back. it didn't for monk (or even he-who-shall-remain-nameless), so finding salary dollars so we could attract the right coach can't be the original problem.

We knew regardless of NFL job (or should have) that we were going to have to get Monk over 1 mil to keep him around. In my opinion, we should have taken that mindset and went out and hired a new HC accordingly. Instead, we went the safe route and hired the staff that we did and we are getting results that show it.

Look at the two FL schools as a great example. They've hired and payed competitive salaries to name coaches. Nobody should be surprised at their results.

If we hire any head coach whose aspirations aren't higher than Southern Miss, then we've hired the wrong coach. We need hungry, aggressive and success driven coaches who are looking to climb to the top of the proverbial mountain top.

Does Utah or Bowling Green regret Urban Meyer's tenure? What about Boise State and Chris Petersen? Saban and Michigan State? I would be ecstatic to be a stepping stone for the next great college head coach. Sign me up fully!

in my head, I just imagined the next 20 comments in this thread, and it ended with one of us calling the other one of us a "defeatist moron", and the other guy getting called a "colossal dick".

ordinarily, I'm all in for that sort of thing, but today . . . it's just not in me. let's just forego the whole exercise.

peace out.
