it wasn't that he was forcing the ball last year, this was part of the offense. watch the really long throw to Domo Taylor @ NDSU last year as one of many examples. a lot of times, we chucked it deep when Schor scrambled and if it was picked off, it's like a punt. it's a gambling mentality but it worked because our WRs won almost every 50/50 ball. it was friggin' amazing. he still scrambles but has to do it quicker now. it's not that we're not good offensively now, it's that we were incredibly talented on offense last year.
really, I think we're missing Kloo at 100%. it's Schor's favorite target (in my opinion) and he's still working back to full health, i'm assuming. don't know how he feels for sure but I can imagine that's tough.
I think you're right.
Houston knows he has to beat NDSU to win the Natty. Part of that calculation is to make your defense SO good that they have to beat you by making plays. Not relying on the run or relying on the pass, but they have to make plays.
Because of injuries and graduations, if we play NDSU it's the same story for both offenses. The team that makes plays wins the game. Last year, our receivers were so athletic that they could make plays on NDSU's D. I think we'll get there.

RE: Interceptions
Agree that when we play the Bison it will come down to who makes plays in the passing game. Both defenses are remarkably stout - likely to be very little running room and a lot of pressure on the QBs. We have the athletic advantage over every team in FCS so it will come down to focus and execution. Our receivers (and offense in general) are capable of a lot more than they have showed this year. Would be great to see a higher level of Offensive efficiency these next three regular season games to get the O some mojo heading into the playoff run. We will need these guys to deliver big time in order to repeat.

RE: Interceptions
Agreed.
My thesis is that JMU has faced top-level defenses, but still won convincingly. The offense will gel a little bit over the next few weeks under less pressure.

RE: Interceptions
by the way, I've watched a few of NDSU's games, and I truly don't believe their defense is as good as ours. there is absolutely NO WAY that YSU would score 24 points on us in regulation. I know that's just one game, but I've seen several plays that make me think they are certainly not invincible on defense. without looking at stats, I am confident we are the better defense.

RE: Interceptions
2016...offense was dominant throughout the season...defense got on a roll after game #9 and was dominant over the last 6 games on the way to a title.
2017...defense has been dominant throughout the season...I expect that will continue...let's hope the offense gets on a similar roll starting this weekend and on the way to another title.

Interceptions
Keep in mind we’ve faced very good defenses in our first five caa games. Had those teams had more balance on the offensive side of the ball, they would’ve been a lot scarier.
We’re about to enter probably the three worst defenses in caa play for our season, if you look at the national stats. Our offense should and needs to start shining moving forward. If they’re not getting 30+ offensively a game I’m going to be really concerned for the playoffs vs far better teams.

RE: Interceptions
I still feel like the team needs to do a good bit more short passing. Defenses are selling out on the run, and it's working, but if 20% of JMU's plays are short throws to the flat, they'll have to spread their defense out a bit. That opens up running room.

RE: Interceptions
Probably won't happen, but our entire secondary could be 1st team All-CAA.

RE: Interceptions
Agreed. Secondary is nasty and glad we have a strong group of corners back next season. Anyone know if Oliver is playing this weekend ?

Given the participation trophy nature of the caa player of the week and past All-CAA honors, you’re probably right that even if deserving, they won’t give it all to just JMU players.
