This site, DI CoachesCorner has us an ASU "bookending" the conference
1. Arkansas State Basketball

Coach: Mike Balado

Off Roster:
Graduated: Devin Carter and Donte Thomas
Transferred: Jahmiah Simmons (North Texas)

On Roster:
Key Players Possibly Returning: Rashad Lindsey (PG), Deven Simms (SF), C.J. Foster (SG), Tamas Bruce (PF), Connor Kern (SG), and Nelson Nweke (PF), Christian Willis (SG)
Key Transfer(s): Shaquillo Fritz (PF, Paris), Ty Cockfield (PG, Georgia Highlands), Grantham Gillard (SG, South Plains), and Tristin Walley (PF, Jones County)
Key Freshmen: Marquis Eaton (PG) and Jake Scoggins (PF)

Arkansas State will have a new coach on the bench in Mike Balado. Thankfully, the previous coach Grant McCasland left this team in great health before his departure to North Texas. Arkansas State will be returning several key players from the 2016-2017 season.

In addition to the returning players, coach Balado has added several quality JUUCO transfers in which each were sound defenders at their previous schools. Both Tristin Walley and Shaquillo Fritz are great rim protectors. Walley blocked a total of 43 shots in his final season at Jones County Community college while Fritz blocked a total of 40 shots in his final season at Paris community college.

Ty Cockfield, a Jones County Community College transfer, is both a scorer and a great defender. Cockfield average 16.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in his final season. Cockfield also had a total of 60 steals in 32 games that season.

We should expect great things from this team.

2016-2017 Record: 20-12 Overall (11-7 Conference)
Projected Conference Wins 2017-2018: 13+

12. Little Rock Basketball

Coach: Wes Flanigan

Off Roster:
Graduated: Maurius Hill, Marcus Johnson Jr., Kemy Osse, Lis Shoshi, Stetson Billings, and Jalen Jackson

On Roster:
Key Players Possibly Returning: Deondre Burns (PG), Khari Harley (SF), Oliver Black (PF), Andre Jones (SG), Ben Marcus (SF), and Ryan Pippins (PG)
Key Transfer(s): Wadly Mompremier (C , Ohio), Camron Reedus (PG, Three Rivers), Cézanne Carson (SF, St. Petersburg), and Wadly Mompremier (C ,Ohio)
Key Freshmen: Jaizec Lottie (PG), Cameron Corcoran (SG), Kris Bankston (PF), and Damir Hadžić

The entire Starting five (5) on this team are gone. This team seems to be in rebuilding mode. It may be a long uphill battle for the Trojans this coming season.

2016-2017 Record: 15-17 Overall (6-12 Conference)
Projected Conference Wins 2017-2018: 5-

Picking us last is not a surprise. ASU first, and UTA 5th, is a surprise to me.

Hopefully, that's a sign that this site doesn't know what it's talking about.

"The entire Starting five (5) on this team are gone."

People look at us, and that is all they see. They do not research any further. Not comparing us to Kentucky, but they lose most or all of their starters most years, but the experts are intimately acquainted with their recruits, and so they rank them high. They know nothing about our recruits, so they just put down ZERO and move on.

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. They know nothing about our recruits (we don't know much more) and don't really care. They see no starters back and pick us last. They may be right, but really don't have a clue what our team will be like this year.
