I think you will see that come down and settle around 7 to 7.5

Appropriate spread given our lack of a passing game.

Massey says it should be a 5 pt spread. 4 point difference is about as big as Ive ever seen between Massey's spread and the actual spread.

I can't see that Toledo is that much better than they were last year. Their QB has a year of experience and I thought we should have beaten them last year. I know we are vastly improved from last year and our guys are going to feel disrespected by this spread.

I think the BSU score could be playing a part. If you don't score 50 against BSU right now, something is wrong with you.

They scored 20 against EMU's defense. I think our defense is better and mor opportunistic. If we stop dropping interceptions, I think we'll get some picks.

RE: Opens as a 9 point dog
We have a talented team that has had below average QB play. Perhaps Childers will show some improvement and the coaching staff will find some plays that work in the intermediate to long passing game. If so we could pull the upset and go on to win the MAC. I will be watching and cheering the team on.

At least with Childers as QB, QB play has been improving each week instead of going the opposite direction. I at least take my hat off to Carey for realizing he made a mistake at the beginning of the year.

I am really counting the days until this game. I think it is going to be one for the ages. Both teams are stubborn and resilient and will not give up.

We don't have to be perfect to beat Toledo. We just have to play well. Our guys have shown they can overcome mistakes.

I see alot of parallels between these two games: Saints/Bears earlier today and Rockets/NIU this week...

one team with a stronger D, one team with more diverse offense and with seasoned QB and often uses dump passes and short screens like Brees underneath coverages ... the other with a rookie QB but --unlike Saints = with little to no deep threat game to keep opponents' D honest

I disagree that he made a mistake as far as Childers is concerned. Childers didn't seem to be ready yet. I believe they started camp hoping Childers had developed enough but he didn't prove it in practices. He's improved but he has his toughest test this week.

I believe Carey has said recently that Childers was not ready at the beginning of the year.

RE: Opens as a 9 point dog
Our really good defense has beat up on very bad offenses, held its own against average offenses but is yet to face a good offense like Toledo's.
This Thursday Toledo will find out how good our defense really is, and how average there offense has become. Eliminating Toledo's explosive plays is the key.

one of the TV announcers last nite in a game featuring big boy pants said it is very difficult and rare for a true freshmen to start at QB early in a season....

New AP poll has Toledo ranked equivalent of #28. Only loss to top 10 Miami.

Toledo really hasn't used dump passes or screens this season.
