These guys are locked in and hunger for shutouts.

Here's the chicken and the egg of the situation...JMU has faced CAA Ds that are ranking in the top 25 in one or more categories (W&M is the CAA D we've played with only 1 top 25 ranking).

NDSU has played two MVFC Ds that have two categories that have ranked in the top 25...Missouri State, Indiana State, and Western Illinois have terrible Ds (think URI or worse). The one defense that gave them fits was YSU.

Now...the CAA doesn't have highly ranked Os, but the MVFC does. So are the CAA's defensive rankings high because the offenses are terrible? Or are the MVFC's defensive rankings low because the offenses are great?

Here's the thing though:

CAA Offensive YPG - 355.34
MVGC Offensive YPG - 411.7

The MVFC defenses that they played though are among the worst in FCS statistically. The only one that has remotely respectable #s is YSU and even they have an awful rushing D but 3rd in the nation passing D.
I believe that when your stats are in the bottom half nationally, there's only so much spin you can provide to claim the offenses are "making the Ds look bad".
As you show, only a 56.4 ypg offensive advantage to the MVFC. I don't know if I'd say that's a massive difference.

I agree.

Statistically, URI's defense is going to look more like the defenses that NDSU has played so far. So we'll have a little better look at where each team is next week.

Just to add to your point. I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I always heard rushing D numbers mean far more than passing D. If a team can run on you, they generally won't bother passing on you except in obvious passing situations. On the reverse, if a team can't run the ball, they tend to abandon it, and the opposing teams passing D stats look worse than they really are.

RE: JMU at Rhode Island Thread
This is kind of an OT post as I kill time in pre-breakfast mode in the Warwick RI Hampton Inn. There was a huge storm up here this past week. Maine was rocked with 500,000 without power. RI has virtually fully recovered, but there are still some without power. Yesterday we saw convoys of utility company trucks from Florida, Alabama and various other states heading to Maine. We made a point to give them the “thumbs up” sign as we passed truck after truck. There really is a pay back mindset in disaster recovery assistance in our country that makes me feel proud.

So we ate at Iggy’s last night, on the water overlooking Narragansett Bay. A bucket of steamers for 5 bucks, ( computer autocorrected this to streamers, must be a JMU computer!). Our waitress was a sophomore at URI, which was kind of cool. Today is Newport. Hoping to see some purple. Go Dukes!

Also slightly OT but UNISwag is featuring Texas State today on their snapchat.... Really cool account if you guys don't follow it, get to see a lot of the cool uniforms from all over and they've featured JMU twice this year.

Back on topic - are we going to be in all whites this weekend?

The picks average about a 40 point win.

On a related note, in that podcast interview w/ Assistant AD Kevin White, he made mention of our blowouts as being a hindrance in OOC scheduling. It's a nice problem to have.

Replying to my own post but just saw we are wearing purple helmets with JMU logo, white jerseys and black pants.

Don't like the black pants. White or Purple pants with the white top and purple lid is the way to go.

Bad combo. too much variation. Nobody is going to see though.

I didn’t realize uri has a new qb starting for them different from last year. He’s started their last two games and they’ve had a sudden offensive explosion.
Appears to be a mobile qb too.

Tip of the cap to you and your better half. You both are terrific fans and a credit to the JMU Family.
