It was the third game that season that USF played in front of more then 65K fans, two of those games at home. That 2007 season could have been magical for USF, and the Big East, had they finished strong.
Sadly this team doesn't, and never has, come close to the expectations of that team. Yet, as others have pointed out, the hope still remains that this team can reach the Access bowl, although it seems unlikely at this moment.
Yet they've never been kicked out of a Confernce
Never won one either! Lol
Yet they played in the very first Sugar Bowl, something neither USF or UCF can say.
That said, and unfortunately for Temple, they are at a recruiting disadvantage with less top players to choose from (admittedly Florida is a better recruiting ground then Pennsylvania overall) while competing with the likes of PSU, Rutgers, Pitt, WVU, and Syracuse, all P5 teams. Plus recruits in general prefer warmer climates like Florida over cold weather locations like Pennsylvania.
Overcoming disadvantages is the reason I chose, first the Big East, then the AAC, over other more established conferences. I always rooted for the underdog, even Boise and Utah from the MWC, when they were trying to compete with the big boys and having great years.
Considering the disadvantage Temple, and other northeastern AAC teams have, I think Temple and the other teams do quite well, until they lose good coaches such as Rhule, Golden, etc.
With the advantages UCF and USF have, you'd think they be even more successful then then are. I'm not so sure that either school deserves the underdog label.
