This is the truth. When Memphis, ECU, and Tulane left us that was it. Look back at our 1997 schedule. Every team on our CUSA schedule that year has moved on. We were basically kicked out of our own conference.

This all day! Not getting an AAC invite was much worse than the EJ debacle. 2013 was the year our football program died.

You don't think those two things are related in any way?

fedhat and monken were offensive innovators. hopson seems to be rather less, um, imaginative. he likes to say "southern miss football" a lot, and by that I think he means bower ball*.

*I am by no means insulting jeff bower, by the way.

Bower never lost to UAB

While TV did dictate some of the more recent conference affiliations, IF/IF/IF we had good relationships with Toolame, Memphis, ECU (and others), they could have suggested, nay, DEMANDED, we be invited.

But obviously they didn't....which shows we either did a ****** sales job selling our university, or our administration betrayed us with gross negligence.

I'd say you coulda paid any of us on here "only" $100,000/year to have done a better job schmoozing our old conference brethren into bringing us along...and we sure couldn't have done any worse!04-cheers

I know for a fact that Martha and Giannini did not have good relationships with our conference peers.

The AAC powers that be couldn’t care less about us making one bad coaching hire and having a couple of bad seasons over a span of 2 decades. What they did care about was our budget being $10 million behind the average of the other schools, us not being in a major metropolitan area, us not having a medical or law school, our president’s office at the time being in disarray, and our AD at the time being the contextual equivalent of Trump at the G-20 summit.
