This is not good for us guys. The people celebrating this and happy about it aren't getting it. The AAC is a business and ESPN is our biggest customer. Them going in the tank is really bad for business. We need them rolling in money...

Exactly most are cutting cord due to high cost of it. We don’t think of it but there are millions that for years were force to pay for sports that they don’t care about. It will get worse as the new generation finds away around cable/ dish and pays a la carte.

Millennials have also discovered this mysterious free signal that local TV stations broadcast out into the ether. They seem very excited about this new tech...

That is why we need to break up our content. with a real tier 2 to sell.
and even then will not get the big $$ some here expect. 4 mil per team.

It's not just the political agenda. They just got too big for their britches and overpaid the P5 for their football. Now they are suffering the consequences.

And I agree if the AAC thinks they will get more money out of a struggling network I think they will be mistaken.

They've paid enormous sums for lots of sports - NFL, NBA, MLB - not just P5 football.

But arguably it's money well spent, as live sports content is their bread and butter. I mean sure, I like PTI, but that's a half-hour a day.

Yup. Or give everyone their own tier 2 to sell.

There maybe legal obstacles hindering cord cutting growth, but I think cord cutting will leap upon implementation of an easy to understand implementation process, sufficient tech support, and the supply of an array of viewing packages.

In turn, it will tend to - I suppose - lessen owner equity and lower player compensation.

ESPN isn't losing customers... CABLE IS! These are people dropping cable so no other network is picking them up either... ESPN/CABLE losing customers is bad for everyone wanting a contract increase.

They better learn fast that streaming is the way of the future. They have to get their content to more platforms at a lower fee. I have Sling TV and the ESPN package and I can't even record. They are trying to keep people locked into cable. It will ultimately fail.

That's where Facebook/Netflix/Google/Hulu/etc come in. And before anyone tries to call me out for giving CUSA sh** regarding their Facebook Live games...

They're not getting paid for it. That's why theirs is a bad deal.

That is one of the bigger causes. I read an article about that (I can't remember where), and they were in disbelief they could get TV for free with an antenna. A lot thought it must be illegal but came to find out it's true.
That makes me feel old knowing that a generation doesn't know about OTA TV.
Found it. http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/anten...727999.php

Digital TV and HD broadcasts are reviving OTA TV. Having a digital signal where a single station can broadcast several channels on one signal is huge. So many channels are available now than ever before.

The channel to observed in the next few years is Stadium and how they develop and what their success will be for their OTA sports channel. They have been broadcasting MW vollyball and women's soccer on their national OTA channel and appear to want to work with the MW in the next TV contract.

At the end of the day, someone has to pay to produce content. If everyone goes to free/cheap services, expect either a subtantial increase in advertising or substantial decrease in production quality, or both. I don’t blame people for cutting cords, it’s stupid expensive, but you can’t have both good and cheap.

Everyone will be taking a bath. The equalizer here won't be the AAC gaining funds, it will be everyone else regressing to the mean.

Except everyone else is locked up in contracts for the next decade or 2. Meanwhile... ours ends soon.

Not necessarily. It most likely will mean both. Your value will be based on the size of the audience you generate. We’ll do just fine under that system. Those that are overpaid will not.

I'll just throw this out there--seems to me that the AAC must be one of their more profitable products in terms of cost/revenue. If Espn is hurting for money it doesn't make sense to screw over that product.

I wanted 2 college guys at my church to host a super bowl party one year for a group of high school guys. They said they would love to but didn't have cable. I brought them an antenna I had lying around and they were mistified.

I haven’t cut the cord so I’m still paying for ESPN. I don’t watch it anymore. They can die on the vine for all I care.
