MSU lost a pre-season to GVSU that year as well and got votes for Top 25 in the final poll. This means nothing. Games that mean SOMETHING start next week.

Losing to Findlay doesn't seem like a good sign, but you make good points. Coach K might be experimenting with some things, trying to figure out who can play, where they are on defense, etc. Technically, the outcome counts for nothing. But, you'd like the think we would be strong enough to beat Findlay on any day, although it was close.

Or Hillsdale in regulation. OSU lost TWO games that year. Findlay played to win, we played to try rotations, offensive sets and different defenses. OK, OK, to try rotations and offensive sets.

I know we can sight OSU and MSU starts that are similar to our loss to Findlay, if that makes you feel better. But I am of the camp that...

* If we had WMU/Akron's recent record and teams we would have sellouts.
* We have redone Savage and the new basketball building provide little to wish for in the way of MAC facilities
* There is NO School in the MAC with the academic offerings we have for recruits
* We are way past the "he came here to rebuild a dumpster fire left by Cross" era
* This program is in a constant state of flux...recruiting, assistant coaches, players transferring in and out, etc.
* We are at best a second rate MBB program in the MAC
* Every year we hear that the men's Basketball Roundball Event is the best in the MAC, they have resources (Italy trip)
* Our teams do not seem to develop players skills while they are here (Nathan Boothe is an exception)

Our program and fans deserve more than can be delivered with the current situation.
I think we deserve more...I'm just saying03-banghead

Rocketpaul,
Believe me I want nothing more than our MBB team to have success beyond our wildest wishes. I think that TK has turned around as bad a situation that there has been in the MAC. That being said, we are going no where and have been that way in recent times. I have been a season ticket holder since 1976 and attended since 1971 in the Field House. I want to get back to "the day" as much as all of us do but the reality is the current staff won't get us there. We are between the dog and the fire hydrant when it comes to our options. I hope the staff can get it right because if they don't MOB will have a mess on his hands. Here's hoping for the best for both the MBB and WBB. Go Rockets!

I won't legitimize this post with a full rebuttal. I will empathize with rocket51. you, like me, have waited far to long for the rockets to return to the glory days of '75-'81. coach k still has fish to fry and needs to prove that mediocre plateau of the past few years isn't a permanent thing, and that the fading of his teams down the stretch the past few years evens out with some good late season runs. this team will be tough to judge. i hope fans support the team because there is finally a solid home schedule and we'll need the fans' support to beat some of these guys.

The talent seems to be getting better from top to bottom.

Yeah, recruiting and transfers have been good. still need to develop a tough mentality like in the Rian Pearson years. my hope is we start to see that evolve around mid season as willie jackson becomes eligible and fits into the main rotation. he gives us that guy is the Pearson/Lauf mode who is hard nosed, defends, rebounds and can make athletic plays and enjoys that role.

If this team is "without question" more skilled than the team that included Pearson, Drummond, Weatherspoon, Brown, Boothe, and Jon-Jon, then we're in for a treat. Somehow, though, I doubt that's the case.

I thought the same time thing. Very strange comment for him to make. What does it mean, then, if we were to finish with a losing record this season while having “the most skilled team” he’s had?

In that same video package Jalen Sanford said something to the effect that the fans should come out because "we are going to put on a show". What? Putting on a show? This year should be very interesting. Let's hope for the best out of this unit.
