Its been a long time coming. I was at the game where Mike Scott threw the no hitter to clinch the pennant in 1986 against the Giants. Me and some of the other guys at our office slipped out and went to the afternoon game they used to call the "businessmens special". We knew we had a chance to clinch the pennant--but we had no idea we'd get to see a no hitter. The place started out as a fairly sparse crowd but got fuller and fuller as the game wore on because people listening on the radio bolted over hoping to catch a no hitter. By the end---the atmosphere was electric. Thought that was going to be our year. The Rockets had also lost in the finals against Boston that summer as well if I remember correctly. 1986 was a frustrating sports year for Houston fans.

I did the same thing! But honestly it wasn't because I loved the Astros, but because I hated the Mets (I'm a Cardinals fan). And I was in college so I was looking for an excuse to skip class anyway.

I was there when the Rockets won the NBA championship in 1994. Richmond Avenue was a parking lot that night, and nobody cared, everyone was celebrating. I heard there were something like 250,000 people crammed into downtown for the parade. And the night before the parade, fans packed the Astrodome just to see the Rockets ride out in cars on the field. I'm sure the city will do a great celebration for the Astros. Congrats, and enjoy!
