EMU VS NIU Preview
Yeah they shut him down. Here is Anderson's stats all before the 1st quarter ended.
13/18 191 1 Td 0 Int
Buffalo scored 10 points.
SMH. Safe to say that is NOT a good defensive showing when you average over 760+ yards passing per game.

Anderson played until right before the half. He got hurt with 3-5 minutes left and they only had one possession after that.

Windy?
Kicking game will be shaky.
Forget Hagan. 4 down territory past midfield.

IMO, you have to ride out Childers. He is the QB of the future for NIU. Maybe he wont shine in tough game against EMU, and in a game no NIU QB is going to come out with a win this year @ Toledo. He will take lessons out from those two tough games and be better for it next season. We know Graham is not the answer, and Santa while more dynamic and better for this offense than Graham, just doesn't have the complete skill set that Childers has.
Did you really write this? It makes total sense. What's funny is you are completely aligned with Carey. I would say Childers has a different (not necessarily more complete skill set than Santa; his does fit better in this system. It's Childers show until 1) Graham comes back and 2) Hall is eligible.
Graham has trouble completing passes at more than 55% , you just cannot win that way. He cant play above Childers or Santa, just can't do it. I know he has the seniority, but for once that should not mean everything.
Chicagohuskie, I wish you were right, but for that to happen NIU would have to play the offensive game of the season so far. Its a tall order to ask any of the 3 QBs right now on NIU's roster to go into Toledo and produce enough offense required to beat Toledo. It is not impossible, but it would take optimal performances from both defense and offense which is hard to do.
Toledo only scored 20 against EMU. Our D is at least as good as EMU's.
NIU vs Toledo is Senior night.
Toledo finishes with 3 on the road.

If it's 4th and 3 or less, and NIU is inside the opponents 40, they should almost always be going for it in my opinion. Their defense is too good and their kicking game is not reliable at all.

1) This game will provide a measurent as to how we stack up against the MAC. Although they are 2-5, the difference between EMU and the top tier MAC teams is not that significant. They are far better than the team's we have played in conference to date. Unlike the last 3 opponents, we can not leave plays on the field (dropped passes, open receivers). We have to execute at a high level; for 4 quarters.
2) This game wil validate Carey's QB decision. I believe that as of now Childers has had the most game reps of any QB this season. He was able to gain confidence/experience against weaker opponents; he has been reassured by the staff that he is indeed "the guy", and nobody else is in the picture. A QB playing with confidence plays at a completely different level; the table has been perfectly set for Childers. A victory against EMU, and a solid, clean game from Childers will put to rest any arguments and/or skepticism.
If this does not happen, the debate will continue, and the doubters will multiply.
Great thoughts.

I'm sure our staff has given them plenty of rest over these past few days. That will be critical in winning this game. EMU will be ready, that's for sure.
Carey discussed the short turn around in the press conference yesterday. He and most of the players have been trough this before. EMU has the same short week, and they are coming off a more draining OT loss, and have to travel to DeKalb (although we had to fly back from BG Saturday).
Maybe that is why Huff did not make the trip to Buffalo. He will be ready.
Looks like Huff is out again today . Unless he has a big turnaround today as of last nights meetings he was a no go
Smart move. Save him for the Rockets
Agree. We need Huff for Toledo.
We also need an RB who can block and prevent Childers from being pancaked.
Cannot afford an injury to Childers before Toledo.
While this game is absolutely critical, if we win next week might well be our toughest test of the year.
Goal one: Is to win tonight.
Goal two: Is to become Bowl eligible to give our team an extra month of practice.
Goal three: win 7 games.
Goal four: win 8 games.
Goal five: win 9 games.
Goal six: Get to Detroit.
Goal seven: MACC.
Goal eight: Another 10 win season.
We need a win and a healthy team against Toledo for next week.
