2 of most important factors in head coach success

1. Only as good as your QB
2. Only as good as your assistant coaches

2008-2011 Sumlin hired the right OC's and had Keenum at QB that carried us.
2012-2014 Levine failed by hiring a dissaster at OC to go along with another dissaster at QB. Sumlin hired a good DC in Gibbs that laid foundation for future defenses with Jack Boyz!
2015-2016 Herman hit the jackpot on his hires, especially Orlando who took what Gibbs built and made it better. Herman benefited greatly from having Greg Ward Jr. and he made Applewhite look good.
2017- Applewhite hired a just ok DC and a horrible OC, and our feature QB in Allen was a flop.

Who do you think we hire to replace the oc for next year?

Can ECU get on the carousel? I know it won't happen this year, but damn, when you say you fired a coach that went 5-7 with 5 one possession losses after losing your starting QB the week before the season started and replace him with a guy that goes 6-18 in his first two seasons without showing ANY improvement you gotta be next in line for a ride on the carousel right???

UCONN Basketball too. A football coach would be an upgrade.

Misery loves company, lol. UCF fans denied for weeks that Frost was leaving, so now that they figured out it's true, they're cheering for everybody else to lose their coaches.

Thing is, most Memphis fans aren't sweating it. Either he goes, or he doesn't. We still have all the same players. We've done this coach and QB swap before. Worked out okay. We're just happy not to be sucking int the bottom 5 of FBS, like we did for about 3 years.

This is a MUCH better problem to have. And our admin is finally, after almost 100 years, dedicated to keeping us going in football, not just in basketball. Have been for a few years now. Our boosters are willing to pay whatever it takes to hire the best we can. That's all you can ask.

Well, your fans have been mocking UCF for days. Fair play.

One dude was hired there, spent a day listening to that crap, and backed out. Hard to blame him.

I would also add that 4 members of our staff (almost half the staff) are in their first year as an assistant coach at the FBS level. Thats a lot of inexperience...too much in my view if we want to be a high end AAC team. I'd like to see us bring in Bob Stitt as co-OC (long time FCS HC and very creative on offense). Wouldnt mind hiring recently fired Rice HC David Balliff as a co-DC. We need some experience on the staff. A couple of ex-head coaches might be a nice thing to have for a staff that seems to struggle to come up with effective adjustments on the fly.

Turns out, those were players he followed when he was recruiting them. Dude didn't understand the ones he saw were not necessarily recent follows. You only see the ones that both of you are following, in no specific order, so he thought they were.

As for Norvell, we've known since he got here that he would leave for Arky or A&M, at least. Nothing else looks like an issue this year, so it boils down to whether the Hogs offer him, or not.
