yikes, that looks pretty bad as far as RPI goes.
With that schedule we pretty much have to win the cusa tourney to go to the big dance, regardless of how we do in the regular season.

It's been this way for about three years now, don't know why some are surprised. It's going to be the standard for every G5 conference ranked 18th and under.

Now Eshan has recruited well, not great but good. Now he has to win games, and schedule better which means taking the show on the road in OOC for three to four games.

Hey atleast we're fourth in the conference, and Nick is back. Sucks that Auburn, Iowa,Cincy, and three conference mates or currently top 100 wins.

Woof. That doesn't exactly light the flame of excitement for me his season.

You have to keep in mind how recent history (last season) is skewing this year's projections. Earlier today Ken Pomeroy had to explain why Missouri is ranked where they are even though they bring in the future #1 pick and some great pieces. We are the poor man's version of that.

Damn right it's skewed.

I can't make excuses for the rest (bottom of the league all though they all be a few notches lower than they should be) but does anyone really believe these teams are as bad as ranked?

Middle Tennessee (92)
Old Dominion (94)
La Tech (96)
UAB (155)
UTEP (167)
Marshall (191)
Charlotte (199)
WKU (230)

I don't see many low major to major programs foaming at the mouth to play any of them because they know they might get beat.

RE: A Look At KenPom.com’s 2018 UAB Hoops Projections
, The entire system is based in fuzzy math skewed toward P5 conferences. Say you're in the ACC & have UNCheat, Dooke & Louis-vile in your conference and you play them all twice. And everybody you play in conference, plays them twice. The 3 are already weighted with a high number, albeit one that gets recalculated, but still the 3 on normal years start out in the top 10. So there is no real reason for any team in the ACC to play anyone outside the ACC that can beat them, because they'll get more credit for losing in conference than anything beating a team outside of conference will do for them.

And the difference between the 12th rated conference and the 18th rated conference in the end is tiny percentage points. It can be as little as 5 wins across 140-ish out of conference games for the whole conferences to move several places. It's a brilliant way to keep the little guys fighting for scraps. If there was a smarter math team that would take this formula to task and show how the system is rigged, the every conference outside the P5 would have a case for collusion.

We need to not be the 23rd ranked conference. This has nothing to do with the power give screwing us, it has to do with us sucking as a whole. The RPI and computer numbers don’t care what conference you are in or wheee you are ranked.

Unless it's a top 8 conference in which we move to, it isn't going to matter.

We're in a rigged game of 5 card stud with 3 cards.

To be fair, we've been terrible OOC for years. We contribute to the problem

UAB plays one of the toughest OOC schedule of any CUSA school. Not sure what you mean. Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, Wisconsin, UCLA.

Most G5 teams are going to have the same record, and you have to play them to beat them. Besides your record doesn't affect strength of schedule.

I understand. I guess I was just addressing the prevailing opinion by some on here that life's not fair and everything is stacked against us. There is truth to it but we (and in particular the rest of CUSA) have to play tough opponents on the road and in early tournaments and need to be far more competitive than we've been. We also have to beat mediocre programs from major conferences. (Auburn).

I was referring to the fact we've only come out of the OOC schedule with a decent OOC RPI in maybe 1 of the last 6 years if I recall correctly. That was the year we beat UNC at home.
