They don’t know our extended history with NMSU. We’ve had some of our most exciting finishes with them....regardless of who has the pretty record.
That’s primarily why I can’t see them ever leaving our schedule.

I know..never forget the Aggie coming up behind our receiver (Kilow?) who was headed to the end zone and knocking the ball out of his hands. We lose in overtime.

The series is 6-5 NMSU's favor. This is definitely going to be a good game.

Well yes NMSU leads the series but you guys used to beat up on us in the Big West days when we were in the midst of a 20 year losing funk/curse (1988 - 2010...minus 1996 & 2005 and a couple of 6-6 seasons). We've been raised from the dead since 2011. Born again I tell ya!
I suspect NMSU will play us better than our first 3 SBC opponents. I'm gonna say it'll be an offensive slug fest early but we pull away in the second half. Win by 14.

South Alabama @ Georgia State
South wins by 3
Georgia Southern @ Troy
Troy wins by 14 Ga So rallies behind interim, but it is not enough
App @ UMASS
App wins by 10
ULM @ Idaho
Idaho wins by 3
Texas State @ Coastal
Texas State wins by 2 This week's pillow fight in the Sun Belt
Arkansas State @ NMSU
NMSU wins by 4 Surprises a lot of folk, but not shocking.
App has been interesting to watch this year. Clearly issues at OL and special teams. But the untold story is how the preseason was all about all the upperclassmen starters coming back, and we look now and injuries have sidelined so many of them. This is really a completely different team than anticipated. We are getting a look at our future with so many freshman and redshirt freshman playing, and I like what I see. Would like a few blowout wins to give our backup QB's some PT. Could this be the game? Looking at the fact UMASS has played everyone close, I don't think so.
Having said all that: until further notice, everyone should predict App wins the rest of the season in the 1-3 point range. Looks like Vegas is finally figuring it out.

With us possibly starting the Freshman running back and not having String at LB to help with their TE we may very well lose to UMass, will at least be close I'd say. Scares me, but I'm sure they want everyone healthly for the rest of the conference games.

I'm not worried about our freshman RB should he start. He is super fast and can make people miss. He has super fresh legs. I think Moore was ridden too hard the last couple of seasons, which is why he plays a little off even when cleared to start. We essentially need three "starter worthy" RB's ready to play for the offense Satterfield wants to run.
Our biggest issue is opening up running lanes for whoever starts. Our OL must impose its will for our stretch plays to work... and they haven't been able to do that until late game. As long as these freshman receivers keep catching balls, I think we will be ok. As a side note: I think scoring on our defense has increased due to our inefficient running game as well. Our defensive philosophy has been to be an active attacking defense that flies to the ball. Can't do that for 4 quarters if the offense can't control the time of possession.

Seems like our short passing game (WR screens mostly) can help with the run is struggling and possibly sets up the down field passing. I more worry our D can't stop them if their TE is wide open over the middle.

We haven't handily beat anyone all year, and UMass is fresh and looked good last week (against a bad team, but still). Also this game literally means nothing to App. Sure we want to win but if we HAVE to lose one more this year this is the one we want to lose. As banged up as we are, I wouldn't be surprised if we rest some of our banged up guys. Am I saying we are going in expecting/playing to lose? Not at all, we'd never do that. But why rush a player like Jalin Moore back this week? We need him much more in our pursuit of a Sun Belt championship than we do just to beat UMass.
I won't be surprised at all if we lose Saturday, honestly we're due
