When do we clinch the CAA title?
I think we could clinch as early as November 4 at Rhode Island but likely will clinch in a win over RU on November 11. Elon is sliding the other way and should have lost yesterday to a bad Rhode Island team. Villanova should give Elon their first loss in conference next week when they host them after their bye week. It is also possible that Towson beats Elon the next week at Elon. I also expect Delaware will lose at Maine on November 4 or against Albany on November 11. I don't see Delaware escaping without 1 or 2 more losses before the end of the season.

RE: When do we clinch the CAA title?
Even if Elon loses to Villanova, they could still beat Towson and UNH. If that happens and we do our job (easier said than done), then the last game of the season would be for the conference championship with Elon coming in with only one conference loss. If they were to beat us, I assume they would win the conference out right with the head to head advantage, but I'm sure someone will correct me and there is some obscure rule for conference rankings.

Additionally, if Stonybrook gets past Richmond this weekend, its likely that they will finish the conference season with only one loss as they have Albany at home and then go to Maine.

Same deal with Delaware. They have three very winnable conference games prior to their season ending game with Villanova.

Long story short, I don't think we will actually lock anything up until the last week of the season.

RE: When do we clinch the CAA title?
I agree with Newbill on this one. Stonybrook has smooth sailing ahead - missing Villanova and JMU on their schedule was a huge benefit to them.

Delaware has become a much tougher team and their schedule is not so difficult down the stretch so I expect them in the top three by the end as well.

As mentioned, Elon has tough games in 3 of the last 4. I think most would predict them a 7-4 team by the end of the regular season, with JMU very possibly putting a nail in the coffin of their playoff hopes.

Agreed Nov 18 is the first chance to clinch.

Only regular season goal at this point is ensuring homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

We will be multiple TD favorites over anyone left on our regular season schedule.

I think the season is working out so that come season end we will have been double digit favorites for every FCS game.

I would not be surprised at all if Delaware wins out, which would leave them with losses only to us and VT. They are getting a little better each game. Nothing shocks me in CAA play each year but I don't think they'll lose to Maine.

RE: When do we clinch the CAA title?
I believe we will win out without a problem. We are 54th in the Sagarin ratings at 72.61. Based on these ratings alone, we 2-4 touchdown favorite over everyone left on our schedule:

UNH--47.04
UR--53.56
Elon--48.86

We need to root for UR to beat Stony Brook (53.56) this weekend and I think they will based on the Delaware (55.68) loss. UR will be motivated to win on Homecoming and I am sure the 2,500 watching will cheer lightly. Nova (57.70) will also win and they should be a 7 point favorite over Elon at home.

The rest of the CAA is within a few points of each other: Albany--48.97, Maine--48.41, and W&M--44.53.

Week 8

Stony Brook @ UR (Toss up)
Elon @ Nova (Nova by 7)
Delaware @ Towson (UD)
UNH @ JMU (JMU by 25)

Week 9

Albany @ Stony Brook (SB by 5)
Towson @ Elon (Elon)
Delaware @ Maine (UD by 7)
UNH @ WM (UNH by 3)
JMU @ URI (JMU by 36)

Week 10

Wagner @ Stony Brook (SB)
Elon @ UNH (Toss up but likely UNH at home)
Albany @ Delaware (UD by 7)
UR @ JMU (JMU by 19)

Week 11

Stony Brook @ Maine (SB by 5--Maine is tough at home)
Delaware @ Nova (toss up)
UNH @ Albany (toss up)
JMU @ Elon (JMU by 24)

Week 8--Stony Brook will lose at UR and Elon will lose at Nova. Delaware and JMU both win.
Week 9--Stony Brook, Elon, Delaware and JMU win. UNH loses to W&M.
Week 10--Stony Brook, Delaware, UNH, and JMU win. Elon gets it's 2nd loss. JMU clinches the CAA title. Even with a loss at Elon in Week 11 (which will not happen on Houston's watch), JMU has the tie breaker over Delaware. See below for the CAA Handbook on tie breakers.
Week 11--Maine, Nova, Albany and JMU win.

4.03. Tie-Breaking formats.
1. Head-to-head competition. If three-or-more teams are involved in a tie and all have played each
other, the win-loss percentage is computed using each team’s record against the tied teams as a
group rather than individually.
2. Win-loss percentage versus the highest-placed common opponents and proceeding down. When
arriving at another set of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the tied
teams as a group rather than individually.
3. Jeff Sagarin “ELO_CHESS” computation. (Located on USAToday.com & Sagarin ratings page)

Delaware could sneak in with a seed if they win out. Imagine a UD-JMU matchup in the final 8.

No there won't. There won't be an 8-0 JMU and multiple 7-1 teams. Only 3 candidates Elon, SBU, UD. There will be at most 1. Better chance at zero 7-1 than multiple.

If we don't win out there could be as many as 4 teams with one conference loss, depending on who we lose to and how the other games work out (ie- UNH beats Elon and Elon beats us). We need to win out.
