What do you want Rice to be
From Loki's post in another thread:
"Our leadership needs to take a very serious look at what we want to be."
I would add, not just the leadership, but all of us.
First and foremost, I want Rice to remain a preeminent university dedicated to undergraduate teaching.
So, what do you want Rice to be?

I would have to have that as a first as well, among others.
I would add that being dedicated to primarily to an undergraduate perspective is not the hallmark of a preeminent university, though. Top notch graduate and professional programs are a must for that echelon.
I think Rice is on the right track for the classic graduate programs, but has a way to go.
In the professional programs, Rice has built a top-notch business school. A medical school and a law school are elusive, and may never be attained for various reasons, the reasons for each school being independent of the other. But that still doesn't preclude me from wishing for them.

RE: What do you want Rice to be
I want Rice to be the unique combination of athletics and academics that doesn't force smart, well rounded people who also happen to be good at athletics to choose to attend a major state school or sacrifice one for the other.
Yes, there are a few other schools like Rice, but they're not in Texas and especially not in an internationally vibrant city like Houston... and in Houston and Texas... football matters
That's the school I chose, and so did thousands of others.
