Looking for Hosses
How many quality big men are we in on right now. We really need more quality beef on both lines.

Yeah. Us and the other 65 teams who aren't in the Power 5. We'll get the one-off, like Eze, but there just aren't that many kids who are 6'6", 290 with great feet in HS to recruit. They get snatched up pretty quickly.

You can create serviceable offensive linemen over time with the right training...

Defensive Lineman it is a whole lot more difficult.

^^^^^^

Which is why a program like Memphis is better suited to try and put a serviceable defense on the field with the primary focus being the offense. And it's not a slight to our defense. It is just reality.

Serviceable would be defined as what? A third down stop now and again. Agree the great DL players are not going to come to Memphis as a rule, we need a number of good undersized (in height not weight) players like Goodson.

I follow the football program however not the recruiting like basketball so forgive my ignorance with this question . . . It's obvious that our offense is a lot better than our D . . Has this reflected in our recruiting as well? Meaning are we getting lower ranked players on D and higher w offensive recruits or is it that the defensive players aren't living up to their ranking?

It just seems like for the most part, the rules are in place to favor offense and the schemes and sets that most colleges use are just to outscore your opponent.

Our D is on the field too much and it got injured.

Our O, when they score, can't stay on the field past 57 seconds sometimes.

Here's the 5 touchdown drives...and the runback. I was kinda out of it when I lifted these stats from ESPN last night, so maybe they are wrong....? lol

But sheesh, the D almost never leaves the field. I dunno any D that could stand that even if they were hosses.

8 plays 2 min 30 sec
kickoff return 14 secs
3 plays 1 min 1 sec
9 plays 1 min 41 secs
5 plays 1 min 30 sec
8 plays 1 min 49 secs

The defense is not tired when they come back on the field...

They get tired because they cannot get off the field on 3rd down.

I understand that the main difference between P5 schools and the rest is depth and quality linemen.

But we are constantly being whooped up front on both lines by other G5 schools. We have got to at least match other G5 schools when it comes to linemen.

We do get a diamond in the rough from time to time. But not enough.
