How about 6-1 with a defense that lost 5 starters for the season and had more than 14 down for an extended period of time.

Bingo! Simply amazing.

On a side note - one of the ESPN talking heads stated this morning that Norvell will be hired by a Power 5 school this year. Praying that we can figure out a way to hold on to him.

Listened to a radio program over here in GA yesterday where they went through the likely openings in the SEC after this season. They mentioned Norvell as a top candidate for the UTK, AR & OM jobs which also included Auburn, LSU & aTm. That's a lot of openings JUST in the SEC - even if they are just potential openings.

Don't think he would jump into the Ole Miss mess. I think UT goes another direction. Arkansas scares me.

Maybe he'll pull a Gary Patterson type deal and decide to stay put and build his own Memphis Dynasty. It's nice to dream.

Meanwhile, let's all enjoy the ride!

Norvell aint going to OM. Just not happening. I'd doubt Arkansas too. That job is just too tough. It's, at best, the 5th best job in the SEC West. Tennessee would be intriguing....especially if Florida continues to be mediocre-ish.

Florida might mediocre now but Georgia is building and Alabama like program now and you still have that built in loss at Alabama until Saban retires

I too think the OM job is a dumpster fire - no one except maybe Les Miles, who wants to coach, will take that job other than an unknown like maybe Norvell WAS when we hired him. I've heard Fuente is also a top candidate for UTK in their delusional minds & along with Norvell. I don't see either of those coaches taking the UTK job - why would they IF MEMPHIS & VT WILL PAY THEIR COACHES. The Tulsa coach is the most likely for AR according the "experts" I heard - but I don't put much stock in the "experts". Les Miles might be a candidate for the AR & Auburn jobs too, who knows but they do have the $$$ to pay anyone wanting the job.

No doubt about Bama but being in the East is better than having the comparable job in the SEC West.

No way in hell Fuente is leaving VT for Tennessee.

Only way he stays in Memphis for a long time is if he truly believes Memphis will be good regardless how long he stays.

If he has doubts he can maintain this level of success he would be silly to wait if he has desires to move to P5

I have no doubt he is gone after this year. I was just stating that Ole Miss isnt going to happen and Tennessee would be intriguing.

I think based upon what Fuente did & what Norvell is doing, that Memphis can sustain a highly competitive, winning program. But it will require a lot of effort each year, especially recruiting the 50/50 guys who might not be good enough for Alabama or OU & the top echelons of the SEC/B12 good but good enough to be starters & potential stars at Memphis plus a good QB (make that top level QB). But if guys like Norvell think about it, if you are not AL etc, it's very tough to compete in the SEC & B12. And if Memphis will pay the price, they might be able to hold on to a Norvell-type guy who would rather win big at Memphis than win some like a Mullins at MSU. And to win, even as Mullins has done at MSU, has got to be as tough or tougher than winning big at Memphis - with a lot more job security risk (think Barry Odom at Missouri who will likely soon be out of a job). And that provided Memphis will pay the coach to stay long term.

I agree that Memphis can be a job that can compete for conference championships every year.

That cant be said about but maybe 2 schools in the SEC west. But the deal is if there is a slump Memphis will fire him just like a P5 program will fire him so might as well go where there will be more money but just don't go to a historically bottom feeder P5 program and expect to turn it around.

But Honestly if I was Norvell I would leave unless he sees definite improvement coming in the next few years. 3 or 4 plays and we could be 3 and 4 instead of 6 and 1. He is fortunate to be sitting at 6-1 and this may be his best chance.

No way the pressure is the same here as a P5. You get fired much more quickly there than here. Average SEC tenure is like 3-4 years.

At the same time, it just takes so much more effort and luck at a G5. Recruiting. Budgets. Unless there's a path to P5 status, he will leave sooner rather than later. I think more B12, but you never know. Won't be Old Miss though.

Hell yeah we take 6-1!

I'm eating a big old chunl of crow right now and proud to do so. I almost turned the TV off at halftime and declared for all of Facebook to see that the game was over. They didn't stop playing for one minute.

I didn’t turn it off. But I did relegate the game to my phone as I tuned in to the NLCS. I think we as Tiger fans have been conditioned to expect the worse and we still aren’t used to winning. We constantly look over our shoulders for the stupid loss. So I think you turning the game off is forgivable. At least this one time. Lol

You watched baseball instead of a Tiger game on your tv? Hilarious.
