You and me both, you and me both.

We all do. That damn scrimmage was a big tease. We have no idea how the players looked or how UNC looked but so promising on the surface. IF UNC is the 9th ranked team in the country and we played them that close and we missed 17 free throws, obviously if we can bottle and keep duplicating that performance level and clean up the free throws, the potential is super exciting.

Through all the criticism of Tubby, I've been dying to see the team play, I can't wait for the season to start.
I believe you want the team to succeed 100%, no doubt Stammers. But I don’t believe everyone here is like you. Good post by the way. Speaking about the scrimmage against NC, you are correct about the free throws. I was unaware that we had missed 17, but Esposito told me that if they had shot better from the line we would have won. I like that we are deep at each position. I good friend of mine told me that Roy Williams said some great things about Davenport. Anyway, I’m looking forward to the exhibition game so I can see these guys play.

I will never forget the most extreme behavior I've ever witnessed as far as this goes. John Brady went to the Sweet 16 in his 3rd season at LSU. After that he only made the tournament twice in the next 5 years and had no NCAA wins.

LSU fans were calling for his head and when he made the Final Four, there were a bunch that were angry because it delayed his firing. He had two bad seasons after that and was fired. Making a Final Four is amazing, but at the same time, the 7 seasons sandwiched around it were pretty dismal; two NCAA appearances and no wins.

IF Pastner would have made the Sweet 16 in 2014 or after, we have some fans that would have been upset because it would have been seen as luck and would have delayed him leaving.

I completely understand this behavior and why people think like that. My view of Tubby isn't that extreme. I want him to do really well, but the worst thing for the overall good of the program is if he does ok this year and doesn't bring in a good class. If that happens, we are virtually guaranteed to have no shot at making the tournament until at least 2021, since 2020 is looking like a rebuilding year.

I will cheer like crazy for the team every single game, but if Tubby wins 16-18 games and doesn't bring in a good class, we are more than likely looking to be a write off until 2021.

You make Good points. There’s a decent chance things could break right for Tubby and Tiger fans. I like our freshmen. Nickleberry and Johnson have an opportunity to be at least very good college players. I think I’ll like them even more after I see em play a few games. Fast forward to next season when Jeremiah Martin is a senior along with the juco guys and a good recruiting class, we could be really good.

I think stam is getting scared a bit now. He is trying save his face by all-of-a-sudden positive posts. You realized that these Tigers are for real and now you are trying save face. You don't want Tubby to succeed not after months of posting these negative garbage posts. These Tigers will shock the world. Remember, media outside of Memphis loves Tubby. They chose him to be the coach of the year 2 years ago and will do it again this year too. He will be the only coach who has taken 6 teams to the NCAA. The true Tiger fans will enjoy it soon.

Go Tigers

I disagree with your thoughts on Stammers. I’m very confident that Stammers is a good fan and he wants the team to do well. If we win, I think you’ll see him admit he was wrong. Now there are others here I can’t say that about. The proof will be the posters who don’t admit they were wrong about Tubby.

Good to have Joe back!!!! I guess it is true what they say, Vacations are always too short Haha. On a more positive note, Rivers believes this team would beat last years team. That's an interesting take however like Mark G said, this is said every year. Let's hope that Rivers thinks they can beat other teams as well.

My God how annoying is it to hear that we aren't "true" Tiger fans because we don't agree with the hire or what he's done since he's been here . . . Let me clearify a few things (personally)

1. I love the Tigers, period (hell I named my dog "Memphis")

2. My love for the Tigers DOES NOT outweigh my opinion, meaning I'd rather be wrong and have us win a ton of games than be correct and have another lack luster season.

3. I have ZERO issues with the players. Do I think the majority of them are Memphis good, (traditional Memphis), I do not however that doesn't mean they can't develop into Memphis type players.

4. And I've said this in a ton of posts, Tubby Smith is a good x and o coach.

5. It doesn't make me less of a fan bc of my view points. I'd actually say it's good to be critical of your program if you feel there is reason to be.

On a side note did anyone post about Azab being out for anywhere from a month to 2 months?

This team could be better than last year

We had 5 players last year

Hopefully the 2 two returning guys are improved

End of the year Crawford is easy to replace

KJs offensive production should be replaceable since he was inefficient

Dedric Offensive production and rebounding will need to be replaced by committee

Defensively the only decent defender of the bunch was Crawford and hopefully having capable backups the guys will feel they can be aggressive instead of playing passive because if they got in foul trouble we were screwed

I agree with this. My thinking is we’re going to be better and deeper at every position except PF. We will be deeper at PF, but can we equal D. Lawson’s production/numbers by committee, like you’re saying. Maybe, maybe not. But overall I believe we will be better than last year.

Of course you are a good fan. We all just see things uniquely which is no different from life in general, I guess.
Azab's timeframe was 4 weeks ish starting a week or so ago.

Good is relative in ball players like it is in just about every other instance. Sean Banks and Jelan Kendrick were good, but in the long run, we were better off without them. I wish all our former players well, but paraphrasing Norman Dale, the ones here now are my team.

Right, but Norman Dale couldn’t win without Jimmy Chitwood.

Per bleacher report,
Jimario rivers says this year's team would beat last year's team. Fwiw.

The problem is Jimmy is not an option for us. No one is waiting in the wings to bail us out. It is Tubby’s team for better or worse.

The weirdo Minnesota troll thinks you are scared that the team will be good, scared since they have proven that they are "for real."
