We must remember that it takes talent to be able to get in position to consistently have dunk opportunities and then make the vast majority of them.

Saying Cacok's FG % is only high because he dunked would be like saying Lionel Messi only scores so many goals because he ends up 1 on 1 with the goalie, or Rickey Henderson only scored so many runs because he took a lot of walks and stole a lot of bases, and could basically trot home on sacrifice flies or singles.

Yeah, the end game is relatively easy. Anyone who is that tall can dunk a basketball. But you have to put in the work to get to the point where you CAN dunk the ball in a game situation. Flying down the court on fast breaks, making a perfect cut to the hoop and catching the ball at it's highest point above the rim to finish an alley-oop....these are not easy things to do, at any level. And it's why the record Cacok broke...no, shattered...had stood since 1981.

Yeah, there wasn't a ton of diversity to how Cacok scored last year. But when you have the ability to make amazing plays close to the rim, and make the shot you get easy, you take it. Period. The gameplan and Cacok's skillset allowed him to score that way time and again. Why try hitting a 10-foot jumper when you have those kinds of opportunities and abilities?

I agree with 33 on this one.

I agree with that assessment wholeheartedly. I think he's as good any athlete I've seen. If he were an NFL tight end, forgetaboutit. Some poor linebacker would have a day he'd like to drink away. And I can definitely see him ending up as one of the greatest Seahawks to ever play, especially if the team gets to a third (or fourth) postseason berth during his career. That alone would put him in special company. The fact that he'd be the catalyst responsible for getting to a lot of them puts him in rafters territory.

I respect very much what you do and hope you continue the good work. I am sure it is a thankless job. But it did come across to me that you were down playing his accomplishment. And, in most cases, I would pretty much agree with what you said. It's just that so many dunks were from lobs. I just have never seen any other player complete the play like Cacok did. With the best big man hands I have seen in my nearly 50 years of attending Seahawk games, I have never witnessed the athletic ability to finish even errant passes. I still think he would make a great tight end in the NFL. With that said, I am very happy to see him working and improving on other aspects of his game.
I truly believe his number will hang in the rafters in Trask some day. And he will be able to come back and show his children and grandchildren that accomplishment. An opportunity that Bryce forfeited by transferring. Something he will not be able to do at State. I do understand that CJ did what he felt was best for his NBA aspirations. But I don't think he has any better chance at that than if he stayed.

Holy cow.

Alex Riley's coverage of UNCW is miles ahead of what other schools in the conference are getting. I by no means thought he was throwing shade on Cacock on that podcast.

Oh well....

Cacok is a freak of nature and reminds me of the kid from Morehead St-Faried.
I think Cacok could be better with the right coaching.

Truth from The Mullet....

Gotta give the Mullet his credit when he hits it out of the park. Couldn't be any more truth packed in those statements.

I agree, but what's the fun in the pre-season without a little controversy to get us off to a hot start around here.

Don't worry though, if we don't win the season in demanding fashion I'm sure some of our old posters who took the last couple years off will be back in full force giving us something to chat about.

04-cheers
