I don't think you can argue too much with this. We all have a lot of hopes about the potential of this year's squad to be better than expected, but this is a pure rebuilding year with a ton of unknowns - makes total sense for us to be towards the bottom of a preseason prediction.

Knight could be a surprise CAA player of the year. He's an impossible match up for any other center in the league. He just needs to stay on the court.

I'd love to see it, but I think his Sophomore year is a bit early to realistically think this could happen. Jr/Sr year seems a lot more likely to me.

Cacock from UNCW would probably disagree with the impossible matchup claim.

No specific mention or kudos for Pierce in the interview today.

Don’t know if that means anything or not.

Looks like Tot will be the ultimate 6th man.

Justin and Terry Tarpey just started following each other recently on twitter, so, hope there is a lot of osmosis going on there.

RE: CAA Basketball Media Day
Some notes from Tony's Press Availability this afternoon at Media Day

12 Takeaways I got from today's conference:

1. Lots of changes in personnel and roles this season. Most in probably the last 6-8 years.

2. David Cohn's role will change, with added scoring responsibility and team leadership.

3. Connor Burchfield and Oliver Tot will also take on much larger roles in playing time and leadership.

4. Coach Shaver has been very pleased with the chemistry of this year's squad and their willingness to accept coaching. (as opposed to last year - my addition)

5. Depth at Center/High Post will certainly be a concern this season. Nathan Knight and Cole Harrison will both have to be able to stay on the floor. No silly fouls. No injuries.

6. Harrison is working himself back into game shape and will be more of a factor as he learns the system and has needed game stamina.

7. Nate is 238 lbs of muscle. He will be a real matchup problems for most of our opponents this season. That will force teams to defense us differently and allow the perimeter shooters more room to work.

8. Tony considers this the best shooting team he has EVER coached at W&M. Team, as a whole, has been making about 50% of their 3 point shots in practice.

9. Luke Loewe has been very solid on Defense, so far, one of the team's better defensive players. He will back up at PG, but has also been playing some off-guard, as well.

10. Jihar Williams has been an exceptional scorer in practice. Tony says he will be trying to work on a rebounding play in practice and Jihar just won't miss! (Hey, we don't need too many rebounds, right?). Jihar continues to work on his defense.

11. Oliver Tot will have a much larger, more varied role. He may not start, but will get starters minutes at any of 5 different positions. He probably won't play much 5, but if fouls become an issue, he can play there effectively.

12. Tribe won't look to 1-2 particular guys in Crunch Time (Dixon, Prewitt, ie.), but will go with any number of capable shooters, which should make it harder for opponents to defend late game situations.

Tony sounded upbeat and encouraged with what he has seen at practice so far. I like it.

Opener, versus High Point is 3 weeks, 2 days away

Go Tribe!

RE: CAA Basketball Media Day
To say this is the best shooting team he has ever coached at W&M is quite a statement. Could be a fun year with a lot of shootouts.

I really think we will enjoy watching and rooting for these guys. Not sure where we will finish but I really think we will see a fun team out there that plays hard, together and for each other. Not sure if they'll get rebounds, but maybe we just try to trade 3 for 2 every time :).

RE: CAA Basketball Media Day
I have low expectations which I like. I look forward to watching the team play together and develop. Very excited to see Milon, Williams and Loewe. The team should have 2-3 months to begin to come together and I think the time in Jamaica will be a bonus to that development process. It is good to see Coach Shaver excited and I also think the 2018 recruiting process is off to a good start. Hopefully, we will be patient and see what happens. Would love for Cohn, Burchfield, Tot and Rowley to get a magical send off. Hoping to get by to see some practice on Saturday.
My ten year old loves Paul Rowley. She says that he always looks like he is having fun. So, bringing her to see him and then watching the upset of the century hours later at Zable would be a truly memorable day for her and all of us.

[/b] Which total will be higher?

Points scored by Paul Rowley in the scrimmage Saturday or points scored by the Tribe against JMU?

Riller probably deserved 1st team also. Think he is a better player than Chealey, but I guess him being a senior gave him a nod.

Does anybody know, and perhaps Saturday’s scrimmage will provide some insight, whether they are playing Williams predominantly as a 2 or a 3? (Hoping he’s a 3.)

Nowhere - he has 2 years of eligibility left and is in his first year of law school.

I'm happy to read that O Tot, whose career has largely been squandered, will be all over the court this year. If he wants to play in Europe, this will help. I'm looking forward to the scrimmage.

RE: CAA Basketball Media Day
I have this feeling that Oliver Tot is going to end up playing more minutes at center than anyone wants or expects. Knight with foul trouble, Harrison out of shape or just not able to hang with a running opponent, maybe an injury or health issue to one of those guys, and suddenly #21 is going to be checking in and trying to guard Cacok or Gustys in some crucial minutes, and doing it and frustrating the hell out of those big guys...

RE: CAA Basketball Media Day
Laugh if you want, but neither Cacock or Gustys can guard Knight. He's too tall for Cacock and much quicker than Gustys.

Now.......I never said that he can guard either of them.

Let's see what happens
