Some pontificating....
This year might be the true tipping point for the AAC to separate itself from the G4.
USF starting out ranked based on how it finished last year got the ball rolling. Having three teams in the Top 25 shows a growing respect for the league (with a fourth hanging around the periphery).
Having Top 25 match-ups for rivalry week (dare I say Top 15?) would be another indicator that the league has worked its way through the chaos of it's painful birth. Add to this, ranked West and East teams meeting in the CCG with the winner going to the Access Bowl.
All this is in the realm of "should happen" this year as opposed to the "could happen" of previous years.
The last piece of the puzzle would be for the AAC to finish with multiple teams ranked in the Top 25, again a very real possibility.
With the addition of Hitachi State, the AAC stands to re-emerge as a major basketball conference again.
This league has earned it's reputation as a cut above the G4 masses.
Bonus points for all this occurring right before TV negotiations, providing the Conference an exciting product to sell. I am feeling very optimistic about this league and the things to come.
Now if only my school could contribute in some way
