And you can forget serving booze at the game. Until someone in the state legislature makes it legal to do so. It can't be served on any state funded sports arena/ campus.

YES, ABSOLUTELY. Did you not read the part where I said "And when I say winning I'm talking about CHAMPIONSHIPS over and over and over."?? We play in craference USA, not the SEC. 10+ wins a year and a divisional championship should be the norm EVERY YEAR...NOT losing to the Charlottes and UNT's of the world at home.

(10-17-2017 12:30 PM)HarborPointe Wrote:  So was Louisville’s 2002 win over Florida State that put them in the national consciousness. So are any number of well-attended games at any number of schools every year. Do our people all have the same medical condition that causes them to melt in the rain?

Dude, Louisville has a population of over a million people. C'mon man...that was like the most random game thrown in there. Besides, I'm pretty sure Louisville had a ton of history before 2002.

(10-17-2017 12:30 PM)HarborPointe Wrote:  It was our SECOND loss of the year. The team was right back into the Top 25 a week later. So now we’re redefining the criteria to “No more than 1 loss for an unspecified number of consecutive years.”

What part of "our fans are fickle" don't you understand???

Okay, I'll put it nice and clear...the CULTURE of the Southern Miss fan base is terrible ESPECIALLY now that we are playing a bunch of ex-sun belt teams and D1 start-ups. No one cares anymore. It's showing in actual attendance, season tix's, eagle club membership, and it definitely shows in student attendance. The ONLY way we are going to average 33k every game is to:

1. Not lose at home.
2. Win 10+ games EVERY year
3. Win the west and/or the conference (again, we play in craference USA not the SEC)
4. Break the T25 at season's end
5. Win our bowl games

We do this and attendance, season tix, EC membership etc. will all go up. If people can't see this then sadly they are lost and can't be helped.

And that's exactly what I'm getting at. You could've saved yourself some time and just typed "never."

Good heavens, NO home losses and 10 wins EVERY year? If you pushed that goal post any farther back, it'd fall into the ocean. May as well replace "Karaoke with the Coaches" with "Coaches Riding Unicorns" while we're at it.

My goodness, almost a third of the final Top 25 last year didn't win 10 games. Even the almighty Nick Saban didn't win 10 his one year in the lowly MAC (nor did he in 5 years at Michigan State and 3 out of 5 seasons at LSU). Closer to home, in the history of CUSA's divisional format dating back to 2005, only 3 schools have even managed consecutive 10-win seasons, but yeah, people will start caring when we do it EVERY year. You hardly could have outlined "unreasonable expectations" any better if you tried.

Sadly, it's true. Our fans are, in fact, that fickle to where perhaps nothing less than the pipe dream you outlined above will do.

But as Cliff Huxtable told Theo in explaining why he bought the real designer shirt in anticipation of Denise's attempt to make one ending in failure, "I've been living in this house a long time," and we all know even that won't do for many. People can and will push that goal post back even farther even if we do manage to reach it. During Boise's peak (which ended 5 years ago in an environment much friendlier to G5/non-AQ success), they won 10 games 7 years in a row. We'd have folks calling that "only" 7 (though in their defense, 7 is still far short of "EVERY"). And since we're running roughshod over the conference, I assume the 2 losses every year are out-of-conference. Well, gee, we're running up wins against these nobodies, but we're still losing the only games that "matter."

The last time we did win 10, there was no shortage of people running around going, "but look at the schedule (which objectively was hardly any weaker than those of the late '90s/early '00s in truth)" and "but.." this and "but.." that. The real tragedy of it is we offed ourselves with the biggest "but" of all: "but we're not winning the right way. We gotta focus more on defense, stop this soccer with helmets business, and get a career SEC assistant in here to run things." We all know that worked out just swimmingly.

Let's just cut the crap and call a spade a spade. Our supposed fans will start showing up when we become Alabama. On second thought, they lost a home game in 2015, so they don't meet your criteria, either.

What I'm saying is more like, "We can do everything, and it still won't matter until people start looking in the mirror and putting their proverbial money (and also literal money) where their mouths are."

We've got way too many people waiting on somebody else to do something and then wondering why things aren't going to their liking. B****ing about attendance when you never go to a game is like looking at your own ugly-a**ed house and saying, "Man, somebody should come over here and paint this thing."

I've always heard this, but I've been more events than I can count at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson (state funded) that sold both beer and hard liquor. So obviously there is some leeway or a loophole to get around this.

It needs to happen... game day revenue would triple.

No, because knowing some of our fans, they would complain because we didn't serve Pliny the Elder, Zombie Dust, Heady Topper or Chimay Red, etc. Miller Lite and Bud Light wouldn't be good enough. The beer we serve would have to win 10+ beer competitions every season.

Well, since you mention it... It would be a great opportunity for one of the new local breweries to have a booth in the stadium as well. Sell it at a higher price than the normal vendor with the Bud, etc.

It's a win/win

Could be wrong but I "think" the rule is that it can't be sold for school (high school, college, private and public) events. The rules aren't in effect for rodeos, concerts and other events along those lines. Once again, I might have bad info but this was my understanding. As far as USM events they can have them in the Roost, baseball suites and football suites as it's considered "private property" in some form.

Considering I was quoted in this section. Agree with you on most points however, I do attend as season ticket holder. Uncertain if comment directed this way, thought I’d clear things up. 04-cheers
