Is anybody seeing any light in the tunnel?
This is probably the worst team in at least 20 years. I can't remember getting our brains getting beat in every week like this in my lifetime.

God bless the folks that are actually watching these games. Luckily I was at a wedding last night, and checking the score about 3 or 4 times was all the viewing I needed.

Is anybody seeing anything? Any improvement? Sounds like our kicker might be competent now.

What, if anything, should we hope to see improve by the end of the year? I would love to see us put something together and pull off an upset against Temple or somebody, just to gain confidence going into the off season.

Luckily the hoops team might be pretty good this year and that's right around the corner.

Hayden Moore should be done. The pick six was the nail in the coffin. No improvement over the past 2+ seasons and still way too inconsistent. Give Trail the reigns and see what he can do. What do you have to lose?

RE: Is anybody seeing any light in the tunnel?
The schedule has been brutal but the team continues to make dumb mistakes. The coaching staff still does not know how to manage the game. The good news is that the back five games are against significantly weaker teams.

SMU is 4-2 but there four wins are all at home against Stephen F. Austin, North Texas, Arkansas State, and UConn. They are 0-2 on the road against Houston and TCU. They have put up a lot points against everyone but Houston. They also haven't left the state of Texas all year which almost makes UC their first true road game. This is one game where UC has a chance to win because SMU's defense is really bad. The last four are against the other dregs of the conference. I tend to think if UC just wins a game they good put together a small winning streak to end the year.

RE: Is anybody seeing any light in the tunnel?
Our defense looked better yesterday and was hitting harder....that is a light. I like our RBs. WRs played better but still had a couple of drops. I would like to see more of Trailbut have no clue what he brings. I think our OL is playing better...there seemed to be some bigger running holes (for the offense) last night. The schedule looks better from here on out - that is a light. We will see when the games are played. The team hasn't given up and they don't give up during the games. I'm not giving up either. I've said this before - Fickell is our coach and I like this staff. If there's no pick 6 and the offense puts some points on the board, this is a different game. The rest of the season will show us if we are a middle of the pack AAC team or if we are bottom of the barrel. I'm hoping for the former. Middle of the pack can be built on (just ask UCF).

Still have to give it an incomplete at this point. Still a lot of football to be played and the 1st half schedule has been unexpectedly brutal. The only thing that concerns me is that the staff still seems to be making rookie mistakes and there's just been too many pre-snap penalties and undisciplined stuff like personal fouls.

I like that I saw more of Pierce and Murphy getting playing time on the D. Need to start using other guys to see what they have.

RE: Is anybody seeing any light in the tunnel?
We have played a tough schedule with 4 ranked teams. I thought the defense played better yesterday. Take away the fluke pick 6 and the TD in the 2nd half when Flowers did not get into the end zone on 4th down and the defense held a strong offense under 20 points on the road. Don't get me wrong, we are not a good team.

The schedule gets much easier, even though we still face some good offenses.

The stupid mistakes have to stop, but that was something TTs teams were notorious for and I think Fickell is at least trying since he keeps chewing these guys out for stupid stuff.

Special teams has been good all year, outside of FG kicking. Coverage and punting has been very good. I do think the new kicker Jones has potential. Balls gets up in the air quickly and he has a strong leg. I think he could be the answer.

I'd like to see Trail get the next start and show what he has. I do think we have at least 2-3 wins on this schedule. ECU and UConn are bad, bad. And Temple looks pretty bad too. I think our defense is good enough to keep them low scoring, so if the offense can find itself some, 5 wins is definitely possible and maybe we can steal another. I just hope the defense isn't wearing down too much with all the time they are on the field, though yesterday was better.

I suspect the light in the tunnel is still about two more National Signing Days away.

I see light. The Coaching Dead is no longer here. Butch Jones was 4-8 his first year with a better roster. I'll give Coach Fick an "incomplete" his first year as a head coach on a bad team. There's still time to make some progress this year on the back end of the schedule. He has good recruiting ties and it will take time to rebuild the roster. He also deserves a few years to develop his coaching abilities. Next year the expectations will increase as they should. That's why these guys get paid the big bucks.

RE: Is anybody seeing any light in the tunnel?
I think you'll get a better feel over the last 5 games of the season where they're at. If we continued to get dominated by this 5 game stretch, not so good. However, i'll reserve judgement until then. If we continue to see pick 6's, poor angles on defense, lack of a pass rush and an overall lack of execution in the red zone against this run then it's probably worse than i thought. Ucf and Usf are very good teams right now, Marshall so so. However, the Marshall game we took ourselves out of by continually shooting ourself in the foot. They've still got some time to build some momentum towards next season, but their margin for error is ultra slim. I have one question for the masses, who is #11 who was out there at safety last night? Couldn't find an 11 on the roster, but he took some awful angles and positions on pass plays at the safety position. Guys ran right by him or he went right past them. Brutal safety play. Didn't look like he had played out there before.

Good with all of the above except Sponseller. He just is not physical enough for his position. If he is fast enough, I would move him to the hybrid/monster/ or whatever you want to call it. I think Murphy is a senior. There is pleanty to be excited about. We are going with a youth movement. We need some new blood on the oline.

The defense did a better job of not allowing explosive plays, they kept USF in check some and forced FG attempts. In rushing UC held them to about 100 yards less than their average and Flowers QB rating was 62 vs. his average which is around 120.

On offense it was same old issues.

Turnover margin is still killing us, -4 on the season. USF is #1 at plus 13.

I believe RJ Potts, Rashad Stewart and Coby Bryant have been playing this year as well. Mix in Warren on offense and there are a lot of frosh getting significant snaps.

I think UC only looked good in pass defense because that USF QB was less accurate than Hayden Moore. I expect they'll get picked apart next game again.
