Yeah, right. Attendance last year was 105% of capacity and the ownership is local.

Might as well start a football team called the Hip Hop, then there'd be three teams with a misfit musical name.

Rimshot

Ok, I'll admit you got me on that one. Would be ironic too, I think music is outlawed in Utah anyways.

RE: Houston could be next NHL expansion city
Being from Houston, I'd love to see an NHL there. I went to tons of Aeros games in the 90s/00s. I was at every cup championship and I think it would draw well. Obviously, not Northern or Canadian city well but still good. I wouldn't be surprised of Arizona or Florida lost their franchises. The Coyotes and Panthers have had their names on the chopping block for a little while. The Carolina Hurricanes have too but I like them so I refuse to include them.

What about something like this? Expansion to Houston as #32. Arizona Coyotes move to Seattle. Florida Panthers move to Quebec. Houston would use the Aeros name. Seattle would have a choice as I've heard Metropolitans (previous NHL name), Seattle Pilots (previous MLB name), and the Seattle Kraken (fan name which I think is pretty cool) among others. Quebec would re-up the Nordiques.

Here's how I would do the conferences and divisions: 4 conferences of 8, with 2 divisions per conference. The playoffs stay at 16 with each of the 8 division champions plus the next best 8. #1 vs #16, #2 vs. #15, etc. The best division champ in each conference gets either a #1 or #2 seed. The other division champ gets either a #3 or #4 seed.

I used great hockey player names (not necessarily in the region of the league they played; more for memorialization)

Gretzky Conference
West: Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets
East: Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques

Howe Conference
Pacific: Seattle Kraken, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks
Southwest: Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Houston Aeros

Orr Conference
Midwest: Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues
Southeast: Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning

Lemieux Conference
Mideast: Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals
Northeast: New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins

Sense there would be fromantic the new Rockets owner. Houston has immense corporate resources that would enable near sell outs and suite rental. It would work if given enough backing.

Agreed on Atlanta, and that's why I want it to get another shot at the NHL. The owners of Hawks & Thrashers (Atlanta Spirit) did not like the NHL at all, and did everything they could to get rid of the Thrashers. Kind of like Jeffery Loria with the Expos or Alex Spanos and the Chargers only imagine LA actually wanting the team.

Atlanta is a twice failed NHL market in a non-traditional area. I don't care what excuses you make, if hockey meant anything around there, it would have survived. Save hockey for major markets, the Frost Belt and Canada.

Nor do I care about anything you say either. 03-puke 04-chairshot Houston isn't any more major than Atlanta is. Why does LA need hockey??? Sheesh. It would make more sense to give the city a third NBA franchise, and move the Kings to Quebec. Might as well move Anaheim also to Hartford to replace the Whalers. Then I guess move the Coyotes to Toronto, giving that city a second NHL franchise.

LA is a mega market.

Like I said, Atlanta failed twice. Give someone else a shot before going back there.

I don't see the need the defend hockey in Atlanta. The facts speak for themselves. That said, the NHL inability to resolve the situation in PHX, allowing a team in Vegas before getting one in Seattle just proves IMO that Bettman hasn't learned anything from the SE expansion.

Sharks, Ducks, and Kings in the area... why add another Cali team?

I could somewhat buy that Texas could use more than the Stars but how popular is the NHL down there for Texas to get another team.

Imo they should've moved the Coyotes to Vegas, moved the Panthers to Quebec, and expanded to Seattle and Kansas City. No realignment necessary.
