RE: Donald Trump threatens to shut down NBC and other TV news networks that criticise him
Actually he was not threatening them for criticizing him, but for making up stuff about a national security meeting.

The press should, however, be free to tell lies as long as they aren't exempt from civil lawsuits. Melania already won a settlement from one of them. And they should be subject to ridicule and to having the channel changed. Now they shouldn't be funded by the public to spew propaganda (NPR anyone?).

As long as he is as usual, all bluster, this is unimportant. He hasn't shut them out as Obama did with Fox, the only network that dared criticize him. He hasn't fought FOIA requests as Obama did more than any president previously. If anything, this administration is too transparent. Some of the tweets and details of meetings we really don't need.

Don't pick and choose. You posted a list of qualities you find lacking (white, male, Christian, straight, cisgendered people) and I took the opposite qualities and asked for data.

Do you have an example of a country not primarily white, male, Christian, straight, cisgendered people that has accomplishments on par with countries lead by white, male, Christian, straight, cisgendered people?

Seriously.

Regardless, when the left shout their assurances that the white race (and specifically straight white males) will soon be irrelevant, they are talking about the people that build things, invent things, and manage things. I am not sure that bodes well for anyone.

Trump is just trollin' the haters and they, as usual due to their TDS, fell for it hook line & sinker. The FCC could revoke an individual affiliates licence, but it can't kill NBC proper, nor could they revoke NBC's rights to send out their content on non-broadcast medium (like cable or over the internet).

Eh, probably just my imagination. It's obvious this is the first time a President has done such a thing.

Clearly, because Obama said or did nothing of the sort.

Quote:PRESIDENT OBAMA: It's very hard for me to swallow that one. First of all, I've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration. I mean, you know, that's a pretty...

HARWOOD: I assume you're talking about Fox.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, that's a pretty big megaphone. And you'd be hard-pressed, if you watched the entire day, to find a positive story about me on that front. I think that, ultimately, my responsibility is to provide the best possible decision making on behalf of the American people at a time where we've got a lot of big problems. And, you know, we welcome people who are asking us some, you know, tough questions. And I think that I've been probably as accessible as any president in the first six months--press conferences, taking questions from reporters, being held accountable, being transparent about what it is that we're trying to do. I think that, actually, the reason that people have been generally positive about what we've tried to do is they feel as if I'm available and willing to answer questions, and we haven't been trying to hide them all. I do think that, you know, we can't be complacent, and that as long as we've got these tough problems in place that not only journalists, but the American people are going to keep on asking, you know, whether or not we're delivering. And they understand it's not going to take us just a few months to get out of the hole that we're in; but, you know, I suspect that as time goes on, with high unemployment, with the economy still slow, that, you know, people are going to be continuing to expect results. And I welcome that. That's why I took the job.

Try again.

Nah, I'll just stick with my original point.

Move along.

Wait a sec... are you saying BHO did NOT try to have FOX removed from media events?

White House’s Fox News Boycott Attempt Prompts Network Revolt

Quote:As for the White House, it continued its confrontational tone with Fox News while also denying any attempt to bar them from yesterday’s interview, TPMDC reports:

“This White House has demonstrated our willingness to exclude Fox News from newsmaking interviews, but yesterday we did not,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest
* * * * *

The White House attempted to block Fox News from a round of interviews with “pay czar” Kenneth Feinberg Thursday, but the Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV networks included in the White House pool refused to interview Feinberg unless Fox News was included.

Quote:The decision by the network bureau chiefs to stand with Fox News is one of the first instances of the mainstream media defending Fox News against the White House’s claims.

No, that's not what we're saying at all. The poster claimed Obama "threatened to shut down a network". Obama never did anything of the sort. Now, if the poster was just talking about what you posted, then that's a different story. But it doesn't appear that was his intent as he doubled-down and did not say as much when asked.

Apples and oranges. And 'Democrats' is a pretty large and vague term to use here.

I don't remember anyone at the highest level of the Obama government, ala the presidency, calling for a media outlet to pretty much be totally shut down.

Shutting them out is effectively the same thing. And ONLY Obama has actually shut someone out, instead of merely tweeting about it.

Of course you will, because your point is wrong. And your incapable of admitting that. If you were right, you would have saved yourself more embarrassment and put forth some evidence if Obama had actually "threatened to shut down a network who criticized him repeatedly".

But since he didn't, You. Can't.

I could provide all the proof you need. However you are nothing if not predictable. you would question my sources and dismiss the information in said sources. So I spared myself the hassle of providing you with proof.

But that doesn't comport with trump's words.

"With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License?"

Excusing trump's ignorance of this 'license,' it's pretty clear he's talking about keeping them from functioning at all as a news agency.
