RE: Attendance and the FBS
A few ideas on how to increase attendance:

- Create a student section (currently non-existent, Red Riot is a **** show)
- Develop a club option for students & fans (large potential, but $$$ without the right sponsor)
- Build the Pup Club (no value in the program other than it's cheap, you get a dope t-shirt, and can high-five players prior to game)
- Improve Red Black Rewards (potential for better execution, I can't tell you how many events I've attended and forgot to sign-in)
- Design a ticket renewal/donor guide that looks nice & is easy to comprehend (I know I'm not the only one that needs clarification on this stuff)

The conference gets millions to play games on weeknights, and NIU always gets the most weeknight games, doing the most damage to their ticket sales. Meanwhile the EMUs and Kents collect the same checks but don't make the same sacrifice, playing more on Saturdays. I don't think the exposure is worth it for the conference and NIU more than any other.

The fans are your customers. Listen to your customers and give them what they want. If you can't (such as more Saturday games), then expect the worst, but at last approach the topic and explain it to the fans. Don't sugar-coat and put a positive spin on the fans' concerns. Many fans are feeling slighted, ignored, and unimportant.

Let's see how the "Huskie Fan Advisory Board" does. Anyone have any insight into what this group has addressed so far?

I heard that the #1 concern right now is how salty the popcorn is. Once that is addressed, they MAY be able to get to lesser concerns such as this.

At least they have their priorities right, lol

I would have opted for the re-lining of the urinal troughs.

I think with a better stadium attendance will increase for a couple years then the product on the field and the competition will decide if it remains up.

RE: Attendance and the FBS
I have always believed in aggressive marketing and gifts to get fans to the stadium, much like the White Sox does. How about a Joe Novak Day, with the first 15,000 fans in the stadium getting a Joe Novak bobblehead? These give-aways could be paid for by sponsors with free advertising on the item. What about a Bill Baker Appreciation Day with a give-away statue of Bill with some of his calls played back at the push of a button (like "Goodbye, Toledo!"). NIU has a decent marketing department that should be used.

RE: Attendance and the FBS
NIU is not OSU, Alabama.

If a person who lives in the area (lets's say 100 miles) wants to attend a game on a weekend, they will. If they have prior commitments, they don't. Other than a few thousand fans, their lives don't revolve around NIU in ANY way. To say they are tuning in to the game, using computers/phones/IPads to watch the game is ridiculous. This is not the future for NIU to get revenue, generate a base.

Some locally would flip through through the tv and find the game if it was on seeing the name NIU. The casual fan. The aveg. person with ESPN football plan locally isn't thinking "Oh boy, NIU is on." They are looking for a big game that interests them, some their alma mater. The same way NIU transplants in small numbers all over the country do it.

I don't have the numbers to run math. I can be certain more grads, casually fans see NIU on a weekday and watch them over a Saturday morning , afternoon on the net. Even cable, other than maybe a game at a OSU or Nebraska.

But if you want to expand a stadium, raise money you can't possibly think 2-3 Saturday games a year cut it. Can blame MAC, ESPN, whatever. But the growth appeal won't be there. We can blame a lot of circumstances and people after failing to capitalize on growth after Orange Bowl. In reality, 1/2 your games on weekdays is a hard sell.

RE: Attendance and the FBS
What also sucks for people like me is road weekday games. I double dipped a Miami and Bears Cincy game. Easy to plan a trip only a few days ahead of time to most MAC schools. But pretty much impossible for me and many to take the time off during the week.
