Perhaps Tubby is just going to run, run, run and play games (both offensively and defensively) in the 80's.

Welp... at least we know he's not trying to hold the ball till the end of the shotclock.

Sorta like every spring training in baseball--the number of guys who come in claiming to be "in the best shape of my life." It's comical.

Thanks for living in reality.

Keon:

"2. Smith continues to rave about Dedric Lawson, whom he compared to Dirk Nowitzki at his last media appearance. This time, he called him “a first-round draft pick.” He reiterated that Jeremiah Martin would be the starting point guard if the season began today, but said nice things about the freshman point guard, Keon Clergeot. “He’s an outstanding outside shooter,” Smith said. “Keon Clergeot can really knock it down.”

Clergeot shot 36% from the field and 31% from three.

At the open practice, Dedric Lawson looked like his usual smooth self. Clergeot looked like he’ll give Martin a tussle for the starting job. Christian Kessee had a productive day. (at least he had one in practive0Jimario Rivers flashed some athleticism. On the other hand, K.J. Lawson is still working his way back from foot surgery, and Jake McDowell seemed bothered by a leg injury.

Jimario:

Nichols expects new Tiger coach Tubby Smith to appreciate what Rivers will furnish. Rivers says he’ll bring defensive intensity and shot-blocking.

“Tubby has dealt with players like Tayshaun Prince (at Kentucky),” Nichols said. “Jimario is in that mode — a super-athletic kid who plays real hard and knows how to defend at a high level.” “Jimario knows how to win,” Nichols said. “He was highly recruited. He has a quick-twitch first step that helps him get around people, and he just knows how to play, he knows how to put himself in position to make plays. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be able to help Memphis throughout the year.”

Comparing Rivers to Tayshaun, jeez.

Chad:

Chad Rykhoek, senior: A 6-11, 230-pound center and graduate transfer, Rykhoek has been out of basketball since 2014, when he left Baylor for medical reasons. The former top-150 prospect hasn’t played a minute of college basketball due to multiple hip injuries, but he and Memphis’ coaching staff believe he’s healthy enough now to contribute. The reports I’ve gotten from workouts on Rykhoek are that he has excellent hands and a good feel for the game. His perimeter shooting skills could help give the Tigers a nice high-low look with Rykhoek and Lawson if the staff can keep him healthy. But that’s a big “if” considering his history.

Randall:

Craig Randall, sophomore: Randall averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in limited action last season (7.9 minutes per game), yet he still managed to get off 43 3-pointers (the fifth-most 3-point attempts on the team last season). He made just eight of them (18.6 percent). If Randall is going to play a role this season, he's going to have to be a better long-range shooter. The reports I've gotten back this preseason are that he's shot well in workouts, but Memphis needs to see it in games. If Randall can become a knockdown shooter, he could also see time as a reserve shooting guard.

He shot 29% from three last year.

Kessee:

Christian Kessee, senior: A 6-2 graduate transfer from Coppin State, Kessee will provide scoring and experience on the perimeter for a Memphis squad that lost its top three perimeter players from last season to graduation and transfer. Kessee’s forte is long-range shooting. He made 88 3-pointers at Coppin State last season (which would’ve been the third-most in a season at Memphis), finishing the year as the team’s leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. He averaged 16.8 points and shot 44.3 percent from 3 over Coppin State’s final 17 games last season. Kessee isn’t a great ballhandler, so he’ll probably see more time at shooting guard than at the point. Expect him to play major minutes, though, because of his ability to spread the floor with his shooting. With defenses likely to collapse inside fairly regularly on star forward Dedric Lawson, Kessee’s shooting, particularly off kickouts, should be a big weapon for the Tigers.

He shot 24% from three and only played more than 10 minutes three times last year.

RE: Tubby - We will be one of the best scoring teams in the AAC
That was last season's hype followed by reality. This season has very little good hype, so some of us are using the neutrality of statistics to predict reality---along with our very best 'hope' to off set the predictions.

Others of us are attacking those with the stats, while there are a few who are picking random fights with people.

Complete nonsense. The bash fest has gone on for several months. No denying that. I haven’t argued one factual stat. Not one. But I’m not taking the word of some individual who doesn’t attend the practices over the coach. That would be asinine. I’m not taking the word of someone who hasn’t seen the players play one second over the coach. If you get offended when someone calls you out, all the while you are taking shots and ridiculing the coach daily, what is that, hypocrisy at its best.

Seriously, is the coach ever going to confide that his team is hot garbage? So, "hearing from the coach" is probably one of the most biased forms of info one will get.

See examples above of Tubby saying Dedric was a "first round draft pick" or that Keon was a great shooter or that Kessee was a major minutes guy.

AAC media days is next week and I guarantee NO coach will admit his team has no chance of winning the conference. It doesn't mean they know they won't.

I get what you are saying. I’m not stupid. I’ve been watching basketball for a long time. I get the drill. But Saluki, I’m not taking the word of some poster who lives several states over and hasn’t seen the players play. You get that right? In addition to that, we have some here that stack their opinions on the backs of others here. I respect those who decide on their own.

We already know that Tubby, we hung 70 in UCONN. How will the basketball team do?

They'll win more games than the football team.

Utter nonsense. You despise Tubby because your favorite was pushed out. You could not be more loyal to josh than his own wife, unless you are his wife. Which would explain the love affair. Of course it would seem logical for you to take your love for the future Hall of Fame coach 03-lmfao to a Georgia Tech message board.

Really .00001% of the fanbase was upset that Pastner left, so I have no idea why people say stuff like this. It is perfectly reasonable to dislike Tubby based on the lousy job he has done since he got here. Signing Harris will be a nice small step forward.

Weinberger stat aside, on here that % is much higher. And when you factor in the posting activity of those few, the % comes even higher. Much more than 1 out of 10 million.

Sorta like every spring training in baseball--the number of guys who come in claiming to be "in the best shape of my life." It's comical.

Very true. Although your long list of accounts you attributed as evidence appears to be more sportswriters and less the staff. I think you even said it was Tubby quotes, which is misleading.

True '87, very misleading. Just like him now being a meteorologist, apparently. And notice he didn't give a link for his non-Tubby, non-staff sportswriter 'quotes'?
