RE: 2017 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 7
Bold is the PICK; underline is beating the pt-spread

Eastern Michigan @ Army -6.5
*Man, this is a tough one to pick. Could go either way on the spread or the win. Army is tough to predict and it depends on how the team lines up with them. EMU's D is pretty tough, but their O has been sub-par. However, I have a feeling that Broback Mountain at QB for EMU will Rise to the challenge as their O has something to prove, and to pull out a victory @Army in a tough battle. May be a dumb call.

Akron @ Western Michigan -14
*Akron's got a tough D like EMU does, but their O has been better the last couple games. I expect it to be a barn-burner, as WMU makes mistakes but covers their tracks in the end, to pull out a 1-possession victory. Another scare for the Broncos.

Miami-OH -9.5 @ Kent State
*Miami-OH has been disappointing so far, mainly in their last game losing to BGSU at home. With 2 hearbreaking close losses to @Marshall & Cinci, they could be 3-2 at this point. And they do have a legit win, solidly @CMU. However, their last game was an egg at home. Now they go to Kent State. Sure, the only time they scored more than 3pts in an FBS game was 13pts at home against Buffalo, but they've had the toughest schedule so far: @Clemson, @Marshall, @Louisville, Buffalo, and @Northern Illinois (+FCS team as only win). So what CAN they do against a team that's vulnerable, at home? I see them pumped to make it a close game that Miami wins out by a TD in the end.

Northern Illinois -5.5 @ Buffalo
*This is going to be close. Buffalo got a LOT of practice coming into form last week in 7 OTs, almost knocking off WMU. NIU comes into town with a great D, but Buffalo's QB from last week can pass the ball well. I see this one possibly going into OT, but not 7 of them. NIU wins by a FG.

Ohio -9.5 @ BGSU
*BGSU got a little confidence back from last week on the road, and now they're at home with Ohio coming into town. BGSU will be ready to rumble, but Ohio will always have a small lead thru the game and win by a TD in a close matchup.

Toledo -8 @ Central Michigan
*This game could go either way. It's @CMU, but Miami-OH won there. CMU's Shane Morris is skitzo as a QB. Last week he was great. Week before that? Horrible. He's crushed Kansas with his arm, fell apart to get stomped by Syracuse. The game depends on which Shane Morris shows up. I think Toledo's O and enough game tape to see how to at Least make sure Morris doesn't light them up too much, to be able to squeak out the win by a FG or TD.

Broback Mountain and the gang tied with Army, 14-14 at the half. Interesting game to watch. My upset pick may come thru. But EMU can't stop them on the ground, so EMU's D will tire if they can't start stopping them.

Drew Anderson just got hurt for Buffalo. He went to the locker room.

The third string QB, Kyle VanTrease takes over now.

CMU picks seem to be quite a bit off.

Meanwhile, the Miami implosion continues...I don't think it'll happen but losing to Kent should be a terminable offense for Martin. How the hell does a team favored in six of seven games land at 2-5? Probably the most underachieving football team I've ever seen.

I think they were able to recover from the Cincy heartbreaker. But the BG one was too much.

I asked you earlier in the week about Chuck Martin - I think he's got to go at this point.

Now, I know that Miami dropped two games to Providence, but the season is young, and there is plenty of ...
... oh, wait, football? Yeah, if it's football your talking about, sacking Martin would be justifiable at this point.

I think they were able to recover from the Cincy heartbreaker. But the BG one was too much.

I wouldn't call it a heartbreaker from the player's point of view, I'd call it coaching malpractice. They could get over the Marshall loss, they're a good team and even if poor coaching was to blame regarding the INT and kick returns you can get over it. They could kinda get over UC, the next week after all we blew the doors off of CMU. But getting absolutely slaughtered by Notre Dame really hit them hard imo, and as BG kept gutting our D last week the players started to lose all confidence in the staff. Martin has always talked a big game, but when you can no longer blame the lack of talent from the Treadwell years and aren't willing to blame yourself for losing to an awful team, the house of cards starts falling down.

I'm pretty sure he won't be fired this week however. The earliest he'll be let go is November 1st, the day after the OU game. If we lose to UB and OU by that point we'd have seven losses to officially put us out of a bowl and he'd fall to 0-10 against our rivals under him. His buyout is $450k with him having just one year left on his contract, it's not chump change but at least we didn't extend him three years or something after last season.

The situation isn't as dire as 2013, we have a ton of talent returning and the best facilities in the MAC. We could very well bounce back next season with the proper changes in the coaching staff. But we need to send a message that incompetence on this level is unacceptable, probably after the OU game as mentioned above.
