Baseball Recruits
Not seen this posted but UC Baseball got a recruit over the weekend. Mr. Evan Shawver who had originally committed to play for Huskers, and flipped to UC.

Found this free article on Nebraska's 247 site. The article is from March, 2016.

Quote:Nebraska baseball added another arm to its future arsenal, picking up a commit from 2018 Steele (Ohio) two-way player Evan Shawver.

The 6-foot, 160-pound prospect visited Nebraska a few months ago for a baseball camp and saw everything he needed to see on the visit to know he wanted to end up in Lincoln. Nebraska began recruiting the 2018 player after the visit, and it ended with his commitment.

“After seeing the campus and how Coach (Darin) Erstad and coach (Ted) Silva work with the kids, and the drills they do, I’d visited other schools, but this school really got me by how they do things down there.

“After I committed it was crazy.”

Since visiting Nebraska, Shawver said he talked each Monday with Silva to help build a relationship with Nebraska’s coaching staff. That wasn’t the only connection the new Husker commit has to the Nebraska program.

Shawver is the cousin of 2017 Nebraska pitching commit Andrew Abrahamowicz, and is coached by Abrahamowicz’s father during the summer.

“I felt like he’s done a lot for me, and going down there and being around somebody I’m close to will help a lot, especially since he’ll have a year experience and everything,” Shawver said.

The left-hander has already made his mark on high school baseball in Ohio. Shawver finished his freshman season 5-2 last year, striking out 15 in his varsity debut, and capped that year with a 125-pitch, complete game shutout in the district semifinals.

Shawver throws a two- and four-seam fastball that sits 83 miles per hour, along with a curve ball and a change up.

“It was a crazy freshman year for me,” Shawver said. “Just working over the summer with my pitching coach, they got in me that situation where I could pull anything off. After starting my freshman year with 15 strikeouts, I gained more confidence on the mound.”

When he’s not pitching, Shawver plays centerfield and has posted a 6.69-mark in the 60, which makes his a threat at the top of Steele’s lineup. In the first start of his sophomore season on Monday, Shawver threw four innings with six strikeouts and allowed just one hit.

“We haven’t talked too much about it,” Shawver said of where he will play at the next level. “It’s more of a mix between pitching and outfield.”

Prior to his commitment, Shawver visited Ohio State and Miami, and was hearing from Kent State.

The 2018 commit said he is planning a return trip to visit over the summer so the rest of his family can see Lincoln’s campus.

“I’m going to try to come down this summer with my dad,” Shawver said. “When I came to that camp, I came with one of my friends, so he hasn’t gotten to see the campus yet. I’m going to try some time this summer.”
