We'll, your chance at a competitive game could happen...

As far as smack, I'm kinda weak at that. How about this?

"The only thing ODU can boast about is your over-inflated...." Yeah see, I told you I suck at the smack thing.07-coffee3

But Litton was over throwing his receivers all night, something that didn't happen at Cincinnati. We may have only scored 14 points but this game was never really that close.

*Marshall had the time of possession 36:37 to Charlotte's 23:23.
*Charlotte crossed the 50 yard line 4 times 2 of those times only to the 45.
*Charlotte made it to the red zone twice, a 30 yard FG and a 33 yard FG tipped and missed.
*Charlotte had 9 1st downs and a total of 212 yards offensively.
*Charlotte had 9 drives of 6 plays or less, 5 of those were 3 and outs.
*Marshall had 2 TDs that were called not TDs, one was a clear TD, Ryan Yurachek caught a ball went out of the back of the end zone, rolled twice and then came up with out the ball, he clearly lays the ball on the ground. How that was called "Not completing the catch all the way through" is beyond me.

Was it an ugly win with only 14 points, yes. But the game was never in doubt. After giving up 37 points to NC State, Marshall has only given up 24 points in the last 3 games. That would be 0 to Kent State, 21 to Cincinnati (You could say all 21 or at least 14 were garbage points) and 3 to Charlotte. Chuck Heater has our defense playing lights out.

Idk what you saw on that Ryan Yurachek play, but the ball totally pops out of his hands and he re-catches it while laying out of bounds on his back. The refs made the right call on that play.

That's what I saw too. Was thinking it was way out of character for him not to come up with that. Any other game he has.

That was the absolute right call... incomplete pass

If anything the referees were extremely generous to us in Charlotte. We got away with a lot of PI and holding, imo, and of course the fumble that wasn't called.

ODU 10
Marshall 31

You have injuries but not in a rebuild. For heavens sakes you were picked to finish 2nd in the east. Exact same thing is what Marshall went through last year. It was tough watching Marshall go 3-9 last year but what wasn't tough was knowing why. 1)We didn't start the same front OL in any game last year and 5 players were out 6 games or more with a career ending injury to Michael Selby 2)We had 4 DL players miss 4 or more games and 3)We started a secondary that was almost all redshirt freshman or true freshman with 2 JRs and 1 Soph.

Might not be this year but ODU will be back.

After witnessing the beatdown FAU put upon us by simply rushing the ball up the middle every play, it's hard to assign all the blame to injury. We had 2 QBs to choose from, and both have failed so we pulled the redshirt off a 17 year old who definitely needed this year to develop. Our best player RB Lawry is hurt for the season (who might suddenly not be hurt now? Who the eff knows) and we are missing our best WR. But that's really it. The QB is a pretty huge liability and while he shows great potential (I'm allowed to argue about potential now that we've lost to FAU, the baton gets passed here) it is very much going to be some growing pains this year.

I stand by my original prediction. Marshall may have had a slow game last week, not sure I didn't watch. But I won't be fooled by the score, I know Marshall is a strong team and they are going to be fierce at home. I'd be shocked if ODU wins, and I'd be happy if we kept it close and not get blown out by 30 for the 4th time in a row.

Looks like we may get Ray Lawry back for the Marshall game. Could be a game changer.

Hopefully we get the entire defense back for this game too.

From Wilder's comments in the Pilot, he said that Lawry may come back, but not to expect him to be anywhere near 100%. Don't recall if he mentioned defensive guys.

Appouh and Rotimi are questionable. Likely they get held out for the 4th straight game. We badly need them back, maybe more so than Ray.

RE: *** Game Thread: Old Dominion @ Marshall ***
Might be a chance to get a learn something about Wilder's competitive mentality here. The way I see it, if ODU walks out of Huntington with a loss on Saturday, not only are you 2 games back in the standings to 2 teams, but you have already lost to tiebreak against both, so you'd be effectively 3 games back - and FAU and Marshall still have to play each other meaning one of them is guaranteed another win. In essence, you'd be 3 games back with "5" to play (for the Marshall/FAU winner). With a loss on Saturday, ODU's chances at a division championship this year would be practically zero.

So, do the borderline or questionable players suit up to play and try to stay relevant for a title hunt, or do the borderline players get one more week to make a run for bowl eligibility? If the kitchen sink isn't thrown this Saturday, then ODU would seem to be settling for bowl eligibility.

Just an observation -
