No conflict between the two: I wish Josh the BEST, and it's BEST that he's now elsewhere.

I don't know how his career will ultimately turn out but I do think that he needed a wake up call. Essentially getting shown the door at Memphis was probably the best thing that could have happened for his career both long and short term.

The fans are left with the disaster that evolved under Paz and it remains to be seen if Tubby is the man to sort it out. We'll know a whole lot more about that in 3-4 months.

He needed that setback in his life. It gave him a lesson learned and a chip on his shoulder.

I don't think a more mediocre coach has been paid better.

Honestly, he's doing things at GT that many of you would find questionable. His first two classes are pretty meh. He left a bunch of scholarships open going into the fall. He has signed a couple players who probably aren't high major D1 material.

has to rekindle his recruiting success. And that will only come with NCAA Tourney Validation.

He’s got to get kids to the league. He was handed plenty of highly rated kids with NBA dreams and didn’t get them where they thought they could go.

That is the thing most people miss when discussing the differences between Tubby Recruiting and Pastner Recruiting...Pastner was riding a wave of success.

Pastner can grind and get scraps. That what he attempted to do last year with Jordan Tucker before Duke came in at the last minute. He got Michael Devoe cause Florida didn't want him.

He's not going to out recruit the big schools for kids.

I agree with this. He needed a wake-up call. When he was at Memphis he was much too stubborn and refused to listen to people who were attempting to help him. The drastic change in playing style last season makes me think he was taking advice from his assistant coaches much more seriously.

he ran himself out of town when he hired daddy lawson to get his kids...he's not cut-throat enough to get a title...perhaps an NIT title.

that said, I'm glad he's found somewhere he's wanted because 17-15 (8-10) won't get it done at Memphis.

Tubby says we have our sights set too high. Tubby says , the media picked us to finish a certain place----we did ---so why should we complain . Some are picking us last this year. I wonder if that will be acceptable to him as well. Josh would have righted the ship in MEMPHIS with our dedication to basketball. Just MOP.
Memphis will have a better season than GT.

There is a 2% chance of that.

Pastner recruited based on recruiting rankings. He was not recruiting to a system or recruiting based on need. Tubby recruits to a system. I don’t know whose approach is right but they are unquestionably at opposite ends of the spectrum.

It is remarkable how your posts always make no sense. For starters, you can't even count to 10, which is also no surprise. Both Pastner and Tubby went 3-7 through their conference tournaments.

Pastner Last 10 ACC
3-7
88 Average RPI of opponents

Tubby Last 10 AAC
3-7
112 Average RPI of opponents

Also, you don't have the common sense to understand that Pastner's last 10 games also counted and that he made the NIT final with a team projected to go winless in the ACC.

Pastner's Last 10
5-5
61 Average RPI of opponents

So, to summarize your usual bizarre nonsense, you are making fun of Pastner, who had the same record in his last 10 conference games with a team on paper that was vastly inferior to Tubby's AND Georgia Tech made the NIT final, while Tubby got blown out badly as in historically low point badly.

You spent years complaining about Pastner's teams at Memphis that did much better than both Pastner and Tubby's team last year AND Tubby's team this year.

Anyway, why do you care? You didn't even know we were playing 10 minutes from where you live; a shining example of how you are completely clueless about everything.

The wake up call was hiring a great X & O's guy and actually listening to him. In most of their games they looked very well coached and there is no disputing the fact that they hugely overachieved.

I'm glad he's no longer our coach. Good luck to him at Georgia Tech.

Every post with his name is the same. I wanted him gone, but I still maintain that the more important question is "Who do you hire?" Same question UT fans should have for Butch. I'm not sure I would have run JP out to bring in a more expensive coach who provides less flare.....less flare than JP. Impressive.

Yes, Pastner left Memphis a disaster that will take years to fix...we’ve known that for over a year now.

If you wish to heap praise on Pastner for taking Brian Gregory’s team to the NIT...go for it...but we all see right through it.
