RE: Best case realignment scenario
I'm afraid my favorite scenario would give JRSec a heart attack. It affects the SEC and the ACC.

The crucial move would require finding some way to get two schools to agree to swap conferences. I'd love to trade NC State for Auburn. Put State in the SEC East and move Alabama into that division as well for competitive balance. That would be needed when the SEC adds Texas and Oklahoma and puts them in the West along with Missouri.

Then, the ACC adds USF and UCF, and puts them in a division with Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Auburn and Wake Forest. The SEC can afford to seek competitive balance. The ACC needs to have a champion emerge from what would be as tough a division as any in college football.

This deal adds the states of North Carolina and Oklahoma to an already strong lineup for the media. The ACC loses little marketwise giving up one of its four NC teams, and it gains by adding a football crazy state and establishing dominance in the best recruiting ground in America.

Finally, Auburn-Alabama becomes yet another major interconference rivalry, and UNC-NC State becomes the sixth such game.

Then, I wake up.

North:
ODU - Good basketball program, football is competitive and getting better
JMU - regional rival for ODU (teams already dont like each other) good football, no basketball
Marshall - good football program, basketball has gotten much better
WKU - good football and basketball
UMass - good basketball program and football is looking for a home
MTSU - good football and basketball has kept C-USA on the map
App State - good football no basketball

South:
Coastal Carolina - good baseball, we will see in football and no basketball
Charlotte - decent basketball, no football yet
Ga Southern - not sure what happened to football, no basketball
Ga State - good basketball, football is struggling
UAB - good basketball and football is back
Southern Miss - good football program with no basketball
La Tech - pretty good football and basketball programs
Get rid of GaSt and add ArkSt and I'll petition all the school's presidents and Chancellors for you

Haha done! I was on the fence about Ga State anyways. I really think that could be a good conference that people in the southeast would buy into.
GASt will be going to the AAC just any day now anyway.

RE: Best case realignment scenario
Call me crazy but I like the idea of the SEC adding the Texlahoma 4 (or maybe just the two that really matter) plus 6 (or 8) of their favorite ACC teams to make one giant 24 team southern football consortium.

The future of college football is in the south. Changes in demographics are leading pigskin to increasingly becoming a regional sport. Look at where the new programs FBS programs have come from the South--since 1990 all but 6 are southern. Of the 6 who aren't 3 are Western (Nevada-1990, Idaho and Boise St--both 1996 and Idaho is going back), the others are Northeastern (Buffalo-early '90's, UConn-1999, and UMass a few years back). That's 23 more programs for the South.

Apparently just of Central East Georgia. And that's just after phase one of five.

Just being realistic

I get it, just being silly. I appreciate this thread!

RE: Best case realignment scenario
The “realistic” scenario is that somehow the Big 12 implodes, West Virginia joins the ACC and somehow ND also feels it needs to joins a conference because of the playoffs so the ACC goes to 16 teams. As much as I would love it, I just can’t see any realistic scenario where Penn St. and Pitt are ever in the same conference.
Best case scenario with UVA-UNC being protected is:

North:
BC
Syracuse
Notre Dame
Pitt
West Virginia
Louisville
Virginia
Virginia Tech

South
UNC
NC State
WF
Duke
Clemson
GT
FSU
Miami

No thanks. Saban will not be in Alabama forever, and when he retires.....the sanctions will then follow. You just made the SEC East worse 05-stirthepot05-stirthepot

RE: Best case realignment scenario
As an Aggie I'm very happy with the SEC West, but I do miss playing some of the other local schools. If we could drop the SEC East, and then add UT, Tech, OU, and OSU that would be great.

Unfortunately that makes 11 teams, and I'm not sure how to align divisions and who to add for the coveted 12th spot. Instead I'll drop Texas Tech to make a 10 team conference and we'll play a full 9 game round robin schedule. I'd then look to scheduling Tech either on a permanent basis or at least every other year.
