I was thinking about this CUSAtv and our TV contracts
Isn’t it a shame that C-USA took the advice of the TV networks to add schools for TV Markets and rushed Charlotte to FBS for their market. Now the TV networks don’t want to pay us anything, and many schools in this conference either don’t have very large fanbases or they are so new they have very few fans to subscribe to CUSATV.

Charlotte won a few games last year because they had 50 seniors. Now they are basically restarting again. It’s sad. They should have been allowed to grow in FCS and then come up.

I think one of the BIGGEST impacts in all of this was the destruction of CSS Sports (and of course conference realignment). They essentially shut down operations with the intentions of selling all resources to ESPN/SEC so they could turn around and create their own network (SEC Network). How friggin' shady is that. Just another reason I hate ESPN/SEC and why they have RUINED college football. Before this, CUSA had a LOT of games televised (football, basketball, baseball) available in homes from Texas to North Carolina. I remember that if our games weren't on ESPN than more than likely they were on CSS. Once CSS shut down, and the Big East poached CUSA of Houston/ECU/UCF/Tulane/Tulsa....CUSA freaked out and got so sucked up in TV markets we accepted any competent school w/ athletics that happened to be in a big market (UTSA, Charlotte, FIU, FAU, ODU)...now these schools are in our conference we STILL can't get chit for a TV deal...because either 1. Market doesn't matter one bit or 2. Okay, market matters a little bit...but not if no one's ever heard or even cares about the big market school. or 3. None of this matters because everyone is losing viewers and media is being moved to online streaming...

It's just sad that the people/resources that would televise a USM/UTSA game on CSS...are now televising Kentucky vs. Eastern Kentucky all because the SEC wants ever.freaking.game.televised.even.if.it.means.screwing.over.any.conferece.

RE: I was thinking about this CUSAtv and our TV contracts
Hell, we cannot even get all of our games on ESPN3.

"Kentucky halftime band performance" (not the game itself, which was also listed) was a separate entity on ESPN3 when I searched for the WKU/UTEP game.

And to have two of our best teams (USM and UTSA) playing each other & not on TV is a travesty.

Tell me one good thing that Judy has done for this conference ? She may not have been the root of the problem, but this is her "baby" now.

When the American was formed, and the WAC was dissolving we should have tried to create a "best of the rest" conference that included schools that were competitive and who could put butts in the seats. With C-USA, MAC, Sun Belt and even FCS schools like Appy State. But what's done is done.

RE: I was thinking about this CUSAtv and our TV contracts
This is what I had to do to watch the WKU/UTEP
Game this weekend.
1. I paid 6.95 for Cusa Tv
2. I had Roku already connected to my big screen
3 I added the R-Cast Channel to my Roku
4 I added the R-Cast app to my phone
5 I paid the 2.49 extra so the video would cast longer than just 10 minutes
6. Then I saw the worst tv production ever. Dead silence, great increases in volume, the same dumb graphic over and over.

The only thing worse was the game itself.

We have a TV package like FCS conferences

What was this "FBDS-Football Down South" syndicated station that aired the Marshall/Charlotte game? I thought it was really well done and looked good on the local CW-HD station.

I was at a work get together and it looked just fine on Comcast CW-HD. The game itself, on the other hand...

RE: I was thinking about this CUSAtv and our TV contracts
MUsince96, not exactly true. Here's the article from when ESPN spilled the beans on the talks...

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story...conference

This was at the time when Boise and San Diego State were set to join the Big East, and the second round of defections from CUSA hadn't occurred yet. This was the proposed 16 team conference...

ECU
Marshall
Southern Miss
UAB
Tulane
Rice
Tulsa
UTEP

Colorado State
Air Force
UNLV
Nevada
Wyoming
New Mexico
Fresno State
Hawaii (football only)

You left off one thing....

20 minutes of the play by play guys talking to the El paso DA....no, not the AD. The DA of the city of El Paso talking about DIUs and the cost of it. "Make no mistake, once you are charged...You will pay over $10,000" I bet I heard El Paso had 10 DUI cases a day...20 times.

Who the hell wants to pay to watch a game and here the local yahoo's talking about DIUs for 20 minutes of it.

I had to mute the sound because of the loud shout that would pop up without any warning

I never listen to any outside tv guys, always have radio of our own guys Randy and Leo...Sometimes its out of sync, but can live with it to not hear these other clowns....The production was basically watching from stadium Scoreboard because CUSA is so cheap they make the individual schools produce the games...

For the life of me I cannot figure out why WKU students do not produce football games on Fox College Sports like they do for basketball, at least that channel is on Direct TV....I did for the first time see a CUSA game on TV this season, Marshall vs. UNCC, was weird seeing a CUSA game on TV...

tv viewership is cratering, and with it sports television viewership. people that are fretting over tv markets are arranging the deck chairs on the titanic. I've made this same argument in a sh*t-disturber thread from an aac guy, and his response was that there are still a lot of old people, and their universe was built on that belief. my response was, "good luck with that".

we will all be streaming in 5 years. GenXers are joining millenials in cutting the cord.
tv is going the way of the dodo bird.

RE: I was thinking about this CUSAtv and our TV contracts
I watched part of the S. Miss at UTSA on facebook. It was actually a lot better set up than I see on espn3 for the CUSA games that are shown. Way better than Middle vs FIU shown on espn3, Saturday.

But there were only 3.3 to 3.7k watching this game...early on mostly 3.3 to 3.4 and later it reached 3.7 You would think there would be 5x that amount just in S. Miss fans watching. It's not like facebook is something you have to download or asking 10 people how to find it. I believe there are over 2 billion users. So why are we complaining about not being on TV when a game is shown free that can be watched on your TV with APP or on your phone or tablet or PC...

3.3 to 3.7k watched

I am so close to simply reading books in lieu of the boob at this point.....

I only stream.....I'm beyond sick of stupid fk'n commercials and embedded pop-ups.......you could flip to five channels in 3 secs. and be guaranteed of seeing four commmercials.....

I hardly ever get to watch college fb on Saturday....live 70 miles away from Western so we leave in time for that and for my son to eat. Well I do also but can do without. This was the first road game of Western that I missed seeing in person in the last 5 years. Other than the Bahama's Bowl (no passport and I don't fly).

So when I get the chance I enjoy watch other CUSA schools play. But you do have to work to find out where they are being shown. You would think each of our schools would send out a text to everyone on their ticket list letting fans know where to watch....

College football is about the only sport I enjoy watching any more. S. Miss is probably a lot like Western with a older fanbase and schools don't realize how simple a text and email helps those older fans find where to watch away games. I checked S. Miss schedule on the school site and it said facebook but didn't link to it.

It's amazing how far ahead schools like Iona are to us. Every home game on ESPN3. While our AD's ask us to pay $100 a year to watch glitching video from the scoreboard. As our fanbases shrink.
