As a big Toledo fan, I can tell you that the team is talented but really does not play well as a team. If it wasn't for Woodside, I do not think we would even make it to a bowl game. No team should incur as many penalties as Toledo does. There has been some bad officiating but that usually evens itself out over a game and certainly a season. Toledo is frankly not a well disciplined squad. There are several MAC teams that are capable of beating the rockets.

Your system, and the talent that you recruit, keep the train plugging right along even when you lose starters to injuries. Can't just admit that it was a close game that you almost lost. I hope Toledo does well the rest of the way, despite it's atrocious fan base.

While EMU does have a good defense, you cannot deny the fact that Toledo was without the MAC's best offensive player and that hurt their offense. They were also missing their starting DE, RG, and RB.

So yes, EMU played spirited, but I think it was clear UT would have probably won by another TD or so.

Logan Woodside didn't play? I must have missed that.

We were missing a starting DT (one of our best run stuffers) and have virtually no TE's left on the roster due to injury except for a freshman. One of which was a very stout blocker last year that would've greatly aided our inexperienced OL this season. Every team has injuries. The "ifs and buts" are great too. If our coach just let our QB punt every time (as weird as that sounds), we might have won the game.

They won, and we lost. I get that. I just can't stand the high horse mentality that they should have won by more. They didn't, and our defense had a lot to do with it. Whatever helps them sleep at night, I guess.
IMO losing Thompson is equivalent in our offense to WMU in 2016 losing Corey Davis... The talent isnt exactly comparable but the stat line in 2017 so far has been...and THOMPSPN HOLDS! We missed chip shots for gosh sakes...with a guy coming in who was 11 of 12 on the year. It mattered more than a normal injury on a giving day. The DE and OL injury we practiced without and knew to gameplan without them. Terry was an end of the week injury and Thompson was first drive? When a good D can shift the attention one man down, it changes the entire dynamic of the game. You know something is off when Toledo scores 20 points... That hasnt been done since we beat Arkansas in 2015 and before that??? Umm??? 2011 vs. Boise state? I really dont recall.

Yeah I get it, once again though, the whole "injuries are a part of the game" statement is way too broad. For example, the Falcons losing Julio Jones and Matt Ryan is not the same thing as another team losing their DE and a TE. Before last week, I believe Thompson was top 5 in receiving yards in the nation. Like the other poster said, that's like losing Corey Davis for WMU last year. Along with their top RB, their injuries are not equivalent to yours.

Same story goes for CMU, we were without the top TE in the MAC until last week, our #1 WR, our #3 WR, #4 WR, and #2 TE. You cannot tell me that "injuries happen" as a blanket statement when virtually our entire receiving core was injured. Our backup QB was our leading receiver for a game. It's not the same thing. A win is a win, a loss is a loss, but I don't think the Toledo fan is doing anything wrong. He is pointing out the fact that a high powered offense was shut down partially due to big injuries.

UT - while the clear favorite - is going to lose a couple. The question is to who, and who will that team lose to? I think we'll see a West finish like we did a couple years ago where there's a 3 or 4-way tie for first.

I've got to wonder where Miami's heads are right now and whether they are demoralized to a point of no return. That's two huge kicks to the groin in the final minute of "almost-sure" victories, within the past few weeks. One against their annual OOC rival and another against a previously winless team.

Man, my Falcons could use Julio Jones and Matt Ryan... 03-bored Sorry, no contribution to the thread, just wallowing in my own sorrow.
